Can't get a decent hairstyle!

Bloody hell. I have been to tons of hairdressers over last 2 yrs and I have liked my hair just once! I have wavy hair which I used to let dry naturally and it was a nice curly bob. I had this for years though and have been trying different styles. I want a short choppy bob which I kind of get but the stylists also make it so bloody bouffant. All height at the back. i am 40 ish not 60 odd. I come out looking so frumpy no matter what I tell them or show them. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

Have tried the curly bob thing again but now it just looks ageing. Maybe it is just my face............just wasted £50 on another bouffant special.

The only thing I would recommend is going to a 5 star rated salon - you can google one in your area - and going for a senior stylist ( or creative director Wink) I pay £36 for a really good cut but I'm not in London.

As soon as you find one who does it how you want they leave...

Where abouts do you live Nelly?

nellyjelly · 13/09/2012 16:03

Manchester. I paid £80 in a top salon once and still didn't like it much. Am doomed to bad hair!

Do you take pictures in with you? I recently had a restyle and downloaded a few pics to my phone to show the hairdresser the type of style I wanted.

A good stylist should tell you if your expectations are realistic to your hair type and offer suitable alternatives if not.

Going to loads of hairdressers may be your problem. It takes time to get to know someone's hair, and on a return visit it really helps to tell them what worked well and what not so well, so they can adjust the cut accordingly. Obviously don't go back if it was really awful, but if you have been to many, chances are they can't all be bad hairdresser, perhaps you have more challenging hair that takes a few cuts to get exactly as you want.

Good suggestions thanks. Will take some pics next time. If anyone in Mcr sees this though can you post any suggested gdood hairdressers, pref in Trafford area.

ah well, I was going to tell you of the best hairdresser in the world ;) but she is in London. Bit of a commute, even in the name of FAB.

nellyjelly · 14/09/2012 21:21

Thanks for the thought though!

nelly - I had the same problem and I live in Manchester. Maybe Manchester hairdressers???

Have just gone back to my old hairdresser 45 miles away in Nantwich and have got the cut I have wanted for 4 years. I use TPL in Nantwich - £49 for a cut and blow dry but worth every penny.

nellyjelly · 15/09/2012 19:16

Hmmmmm. £49 just for a cut and blow sounds steep! But if ou get the cut ou want then I guess it is worth it. Thanks for the info.

I had a nice cut by a Liverpool hairdresser if that's not too far? Faye Lawless. About £40 for cut and blow, although if just having it diffused she doesn't charge for the blowdry.

I have curly hair and have it cut in a short bob, I went somewhere else as Faye couldn't fit me in, and now it's grown out a bit it's ok, but she cut it so short! She also did those annoying 'I'm just taking the weight out snips, so now I have lots of very short bits I can't fit into a ponytail.

nellyjelly · 16/09/2012 21:25

Where in Liverpool? Thanks.
