Topshop sizing help!

ChablisLover · 12/09/2012 06:34

So if something was described to you as a standard Topshop size 10 , would I be able to fit ( squeeze) into it.

I'm a 34d, 28-29 waist and 37 hip.

Tis a dress on eBay - I love it as had the maternity version when preggers but this is the only now maternity version I see. Even dragged poor son into charity shop yesterday which we had driven by cos it was in the windows but it was a size 6! And that's never going to happen!

Please help

Thanks

To be honest I think Topshop comes up really small. I think it's all of the very slim teenagers. I would have thought with your chest size it may not fit. Do they have size guides on their website? Might be worth emailing the seller and asking them :)

Househunter · 12/09/2012 07:10

You never know. I just bought a topshop top in a size 8. I am not and never have been an 8. But the 10 and 12 were just massive. So the size tag was a major selling point for me Grin

MrsApplepants · 12/09/2012 07:11

I would say no, as their sizes are v small.

bishboschone · 12/09/2012 07:17

I have a topshop dress which Is a ten . It's snug , my waist is 25 and hips 33... , 32 d I would save your money. Set up a notification so when a 12 comes on you can snap it up.

awaywego1 · 12/09/2012 07:34

I would think that the dress would be fine if theres any stretch in the nork area. Waist and hips sound fine for a topshop 10.

trixymalixy · 12/09/2012 07:35

Topshop sizing is on the small side. It depends how much the dress is. If its £2 then it might be worth the risk.

trixymalixy · 12/09/2012 07:41

Could you not take your maternity version of the dress to a dressmaker and had it adapted to fit? Probably wouldn't cost more than £15-20.

ChablisLover · 12/09/2012 08:08

thanks all

I sold my maternity version on EBay and have regretted it ever since - but hey ho

The dress is being sold for £15 so could be a very expensive mistake

May wait and see if a size 12 or larger comes up and could get it altered.

I think it should be fine. My 'normal' (ie not pg or bfing) chest is 30FF and I usually wear a Topshop 12. My wardrobe is full of them, never sure where this idea of their stuff being tiny comes from.

If its too small just reBay it!

mrsmangelsneck · 12/09/2012 08:16

Should have said that I am also a 12 in Warehouse, Oasis, M&S etc. Most of my stuff is from Toppers though :)

trixymalixy · 12/09/2012 08:32

I would just buy it. If the worst comes to the worst, just re-eBay it

Is it the dress with the straps across the back?

ChablisLover · 12/09/2012 08:35

no

it has no straps across the back but it is a satin type material

And from memory it is cut a little loose

will have a think about it

so is £15 an expensive mistake?

I offered a best offer and it was rejected as being too low and the seller got shirty with me saying the way ebay works is that the minimum price is set etc etc- i know how it works I have been buying & selling for years - this seller has really low feedback score

Considering this dress is at least 6 years old - £15 seems steep.

I know its at least 6 years old as I had bought the maternity version when pregnant and my son is 5 1/2!

Should I just forget about it?

MrsCampbellBlack · 12/09/2012 11:33

Definitely forget about it.

There will be other nice dresses.

modifiedmum · 12/09/2012 11:36

No i'm 27 inches round the waist and 36 round the hips and a 30 back size in bras and i wear 8 tops and 10 bottoms in topshop, i'd say go for the 12 :o)

Ephiny · 12/09/2012 11:38

Depends on the cut/style, but I'd guess a 12 would fit you better. I am 34/26/36 and have a Topshop size 12 dress which is a fairly snug fit for me.

Admittedly I bought it nearly 10 years ago, so sizing might have changed somewhat!

ChablisLover · 12/09/2012 11:49

Ephiny - don't think they would have got smaller!

I think it would have been an expensive mistake and Will search ebay till i find a larger size! And the charity shops!

Ah well - at least £20 inc p&p to go toward the Clarks Melanie janes I have ordered! Grin

TheBirdsTheBirds · 12/09/2012 12:20

Buy it and sell it back if it doesn't fit?

I think their sizing is pretty inconsistent, so you might be alright. I have some trousers of theirs in a 6 and they're huge, but their jeans are tiny and a size 10 is tight on me. I'm 33-25-35.
