... but I wonder if I have surpassed myself with this recent purchase. What say you?!

If you like them, you wear them with pride.

Personally, it's a big fat NO from me but they aren't the most vile I've seen.

ISmellCheese · 11/09/2012 10:53

When i saw 'crocs' 'wedge' and 'buckle' in the link i did think they were going to be worse...

dexter73 · 11/09/2012 11:17

I think you have surpassed yourself!!

AKissIsNotAContract · 11/09/2012 11:18

They look really comfy.

Nagoo · 11/09/2012 11:19

tis true, they are vile. But at least they are £15 off vile Grin

Ephiny · 11/09/2012 11:26

They are very ugly. They don't even look very comfy or practical with that big clumpy sole/heel.

fedupofnamechanging · 11/09/2012 12:03

They are not as hideous as I was expecting tbh. They are not 'pretty' sandals, but with the right clothes they wouldn't stand out as being 'horrible' shoes. Make sure you paint your toe nails, though.

imnotmymum · 11/09/2012 12:05

Are you being serious why in the name of mumsnet would you want to wear those.

JazzyComposition · 11/09/2012 12:20

Well, I'll tell you why.

I am very short so I need to wear something high AT ALL TIMES, not only because otherwise my ds's Y4's mates confuse me with one of them, but also because otherwise my clothes look ugly on me and I like looking groomed at all times.

I have really wide feet and pretty sandals either don't fit me or make my feet and even legs look ridiculous.

I walk everywhere and I have a 1hr school run round trip every day, so unfortunately comfort is also an issue.

I am not fat at all but I am a curvaceous size 8; I now that may sound silly but honestly, it's because I am very short, that if I don't have that extra length on my leg area I can actually look stumpy and heavy.

I like looking groomed at all times. I know those sandals wouldn't qualify as groomed but they're mostly hidden under boot-cut jeans, so I get the extra length; I probably wouldn't wear them with dresses... probably.

I agree with all of you. They're ugly. I have to wear ugly shoes and there's nothing I can do about it. It's easier in winter when I can wear block heel calf boots all the time.

You see my predicament?

You don't have to wear ugly shoes. I have size 8 wide feet and have found nice wedge sandals for the summer. I cannot believe those are your only option.

valiumredhead · 11/09/2012 12:28

I like the black option!

imnotmymum · 11/09/2012 12:29

I have some lovely wedge sandals you do not have to wear ugly shoes that is just madness.

valiumredhead · 11/09/2012 12:29

I don't think they are ugly

JazzyComposition · 11/09/2012 12:29

In the past I have worn Fly London Grin sandals which I know they still look a bit orthopedic to some people but I like them. They're extremely comfortable too. However, they cost £80 and the cork wedge cracks after wearing them for a month!

So what sandals you wear dexter?

OP posts:
Ephiny · 11/09/2012 12:31

I do sympathise - I am short and curvy too and dream of having a tall long-legged willowy shape :(. Never going to happen though, so I might as well be short and proud.

The shoes will probably look OK with bootcut jeans IMO.

dexter73 · 11/09/2012 12:32

I've got a nice pair of suede wedges from Hobbs.

JazzyComposition · 11/09/2012 12:37

Are they slingback dexter? Because for some reason I don't like slingbacks.

OP posts:
dexter73 · 11/09/2012 12:40

No they have 2 thick suede straps that cross over at the front and are backless IYSWIM!

JazzyComposition · 11/09/2012 12:46

Oh yeah, they sound nice
Are they platform-y or plungy?

OP posts:
dexter73 · 11/09/2012 12:50

They have a sort of thin platform. I can't link to them as they are a couple of years old now.

JazzyComposition · 11/09/2012 12:52

I find fitflops very comfortable and perfect for wide feet like mine, but they're just too low. I really do wish they came with a thicker wedge.

HumphreyCobbler · 11/09/2012 12:54

I wear Art sandals. Mumsnet hates those too, but I don't care
My last pair have been going strong for four years. They are worth £80.

valiumredhead · 11/09/2012 12:55

Art shoes are fab - I have a trainer type pair and they are amazing and still going strong 5 years on, worth every penny.

JazzyComposition · 11/09/2012 12:56

Off to Google

OP posts:
vezzie · 11/09/2012 12:58

They do not look like crocs. So they are ok.
Totally feel you on the needing-height-but-also-needing-to-walk thing. I haven't cracked it and walk 5 miles a day in horrific (seriously HORRIFIC) hikeytrainerysandal things. I dread bumping into someone I know.

any sensible solutions to this problem out there, or are all you long-legged people just going to sneer? ;)
