Bra experts-Why do my straps constantly fall down?

hugoagogo · 09/09/2012 20:23

Is it

a) the straps are too long?

b) the straps are too short?

c) the whole bra doesn't fit?

d) my shoulders are all slopey?

They seem to fit; tight, but not too tight, no double busting, middle bit sits close to chest, no armpit over hang and surprisingly little back fat.

How can I combat this problem?

You see I used to thing have side boob bulge meant I was too small on the back size... so I went up to a 36 in the end....

I think I read on here that you get side boobage actually when the cup is too small and the breast tissue gets squashed into the armpit! so actually I kept going up on back size when actually I should have increased cup size instead.

I dont have big boobs at all!! DH face was -> :s when i told him I was a d cup!

35 and 43 would make you 34 or 36 indeed, but E is way too small. Try around G.

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/09/2012 21:41

You would be either a 34 or a 36 back - I would try a 34 as tighter is generally better. I measure 31 and wear a 30.

On a 34 back, I would be trying a FF/G cup and play around from there
On a 36 back, I would try around an F.

Dress size 14.
Yep can definitely pull it away from my body - but feel that if it was any tighter then I would have 'back fat'.
No wires don't really sit totally flat to chest, but then sometimes when I lie down it feels as though its really pushing down on me.
Cups constantly gaping.
Ha, couldn't have '4 boob syndrome' even if I wanted to!!

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/09/2012 21:50

In most cases, back fat is actually tissue that needs to be scooped forward in to the cups. If you can definitely pull it away you will need to go down a good couple of back sizes probably. If the back is very loose then the cups don't tell you a huge amount as they will be collapsing forward due to the lack of support.

If you are a 14 I would be relatively surprised if you are a 38 unless you seem to have a particularly broad back. It is possible, but given what you have said above it's unlikely.

If M&S fitted you then you are probably more like 33 or 34 inches underneath (given they add 4/5" to get your backsize) so I would try a 32 and a 34 as a start point. Put the bra on backward, and just see if you can do it up, ignoring the cups. Then start working your way up through the cups til you find one that works.

I think I do have quite a broad back, but everything you say (cup collapsing) is very true!
I still don't understand how I could go smaller though?
Thank you for my fitting though Stats ! Grin Will be bloody happy if I turn out to be a 34D! Bet I will be the odd-one-out who has been measured correctly, and I'm just a freak!

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/09/2012 22:20

judging by their size chart (GRRRRR) and the measurements they would call a 38b, I would say a 34d, 32DD, that kind of territory would be the place to start and just experiment

However if you can get to somewhere other than M&S to try stuff that would help, as overall the feedback on their sizes/quality isn't great in itself. If you can get to a bravissimo, rigby and peller etc then great but if not, somewhere like Debenhams or John Lewis where you can try different brands would also be a lot better. However have a look on the Bravissimo website at their fitting section, they have lots of info and a video on how a well fitting bra should look and feel. And when you try bras, remember to lean forward, put your hand round under your armpit and scoop everything forward inside the wire.
