Dressing for Dinner

plus3 · 08/09/2012 21:23

My lovely DH is taking me away for our WA. (Nice, I know)

However. On evaluating my wardrobe, I have discovered that most of my clothes are not suitable for dining out. We haven't been anywhere to really dress up for other than weddings since having the DC. (Sad, I know Grin)

So what do I wear?? Please help - I've only got Monday & Tuesday to shop. Need a couple of outfit ideas. Am a tall & curvy 12.

Where is he taking you? Do you need smart or really dressy?

Natnat29 · 08/09/2012 23:15

If dressy- I'd go wrap dress lots of nice ones around at mo. less dressy floral dress and leggings maybe? Have good time :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/09/2012 11:02

It realyl depends where you're going - but personally I'd say no to leggings. How about a plain jersey dress? You could wear it with heels for dinner and then wear it with boots and a cardigan or denim/biker jacket day to day.

Most restaurants have a casual dress policy, although you could enquire - we're off to Heston's new restaurant soon - dress code casual....dh and I don't go to the stuffy sort of food establishment that insist on a jacket and tie as we question their focus - fashion not food. Anyhow I digress, jeans and a smart top would be fine, otherwise I'd go for a dress. Getting you hair, nails and make up wil make all the difference to how you feel.

I am a reasonably tall and curvy 12/14 and I find tea dresses very flattering for my figure, and perfect for slightly, but not too dressed up occasions. I bought a really nice wine coloured one from m&co recently, and they had some nice ones in urban outfitters yesterday, though most of them were quite short so would probably need to be worn over a pair of skinnies.

Sorry have only just come back to the thread as was working yesterday & tried shopping today.
Thanks for replying.

Focus is definetly on food, and website says smart causal. I hate that description.

As I live in jeans when not at work, I guess a dress. I saw absolutely nothing that I wanted to buy today.

Every bloody time I have to dress up to some degree I go through the same thing. It is ridicoulous. Maybe I need to read the capsule wardrobe threads (hopeful Smile)

Smart/casual dress ideas here.

TapselteerieO · 10/09/2012 16:31

I would think Zara fits the "smart/casual" look.

plus3 · 10/09/2012 19:32

Alas, I am not that cool Grin

Have never been in Zara. I have 2 dresses from coast - one is a wrap dress which will be fine, the other is a black cocktail dress, which will be too dressy I think.

The description of 'tired' suits some of my clothes (ie I love them, wear them lots so they stop being 'smart' enough to go out in IYSWIM)
