I'm starting work again after serious illness and have had to replace wardrobe. My shape has also changed: lost weight but my skin tone is not good and I am going for long sleeves. Anyway, I have separates covered - basic black pencil skirt, shirts, cowl neck tops etc. I am looking for a dress and blazer which I could use for any big meetings. I don't have much of a budget. I like the look of long sleeved draped dresses, I can't do anything with wool (I get hot flashes) and I am wondering if ce me dresses and the like are the way forward. If you have them, do you find them useful? I am also interested in getting a shrunken blazer, perhaps in a boucle material - something from zara possibly.

Could you tell me about your mid-priced absolutely favourite dresses and blazers? I am thinking Zara or anglomania/ce me/me & em at a sale price.
If it helps I am now a size 8, shaped like an inverted triangle. I still have (droopy) boobs and want to emphasise my waist. I can't wear anything low cut and have to cover my arms. I am 5'2'', red/blonde haired very pale creature. I am looking for black, plum, dark navy or maybe dark green dresses.

I have ordered countless Ce ME, Anglomania and Me&Em dresses, and the only ones I have kept have been Me&Em - apart from flattering my shape, they are a nice decent weight of jersey, so have a nice holding everything together feeling. I have worn and washed mine constantly and they have lasted brilliantly.

Only minor complaint is that I have a tendency to tug mine down and it is breaking the ruching stitches ever so slightly, but that is after 10 months of hard wear, and isn't actually because it rides up, it's just a stupid habit I have with all dresses, I've noticed.

suburbandweller · 08/09/2012 14:39

I bought a long sleeved ce me dress recently and love it - good quality thick jersey, flattering and has washed well so far (am 5'3 and size 6-8 so similar to you). Would recommend - they often have them on the Outnet and Brandalley though so you should never pay full price. I got mine for about £30 in the Outnet clearance and had a lot of compliments the first time I wore mine to work.

scripsi · 08/09/2012 14:47

thanks Hopefully the Me&Em do look very well-cut (could you link to your favourites?). How tall are you?
Suburbandweller hadn't thought of looking on those sites. Sometimes the Ce Me dresses look like they might potentially be a bit shiny - are they?
If you wear blazers with them, what are you favourites?

I have the ruched ones - the Book of Scrap Quilts cap sleeved and the v neck ones, and they are lovely. Have been tempted by the tulip one too, but never ordered. I'm 5'6", and TBH they're probably a fraction short on me (I am a size S), but the size M (which may be a bit longer) is too big for me - I like clothes really fitted, and am a size 10 - other people who are a 10 have been perfectly happy with a M.

scripsi · 08/09/2012 15:09

Thank you hopefully they do look good (couldn't get your first link to work but I think I've found it).

At the moment I'm thinking of getting a selection of Ce Me and Me&Em to see which ones work best.

The long sleeved Anglomania ones are usually very 'night time' looking. I've got a short sleeved black one which I wear for work sometimes with a jacket over, which is flattering on my hourglass figure and comfortable. You'd need a small or extra small.

Can I also recommend that you have a look at The White Company for good quality jersey dresses? They only do black, grey or navy though. I'm a curvy 12 and wear a small there, so you'd need the tiniest size they do!

Hopefully · 08/09/2012 16:16

lol, I must have had something else copied there! sorry.

Hopefully · 08/09/2012 16:16

cap sleeved dress is awesome though, v versatile.

scripsi · 08/09/2012 16:37

haha hopefully would have been a great name for a dress.

Remus that's what I thought about Anglomania. Luckily there is a White Company store quite near me so I can try some on (wouldn't have thought of that).

I agree on the shiny front, there is a bit of a shine to the jersey. It isn't excessive though and mine is still very work-appropriate (I have a navy one so not sure about other colours). I wear mine on business casual days at work so don't tend to wear with a blazer.

Ruari888 · 10/09/2012 13:36

Hi Scripsi I just came across your post . I love Ce Me and have been wearing it for a couple of years now. I must say I havnt heard of me and M and the other brand so cant compare although i will look them up. What I love about Ce Me is that their dresses wash so well, and I can wear them to any occasion ( even the ones with the slight shine which is their more expensive fabric) and they do have a trendier fashion edge than other jersey brands I have tried. Like suburbandweller I also get alot of compliments. Whats important is that you feel good in what you wear and the dress makes you feel good about yourself whichever brand you wear.

scripsi · 10/09/2012 13:48

thank you Ruari I haven't yet seen the Ce Me dresses in real life. I am happy that they look "expensively shiny" so will order today. I can find the Ce Me dresses at better prices (and I need long sleeves).
suburbandweller ruari I am cruising a few skinny boucle jackets by zara and also looking for an asymmetric leather jacket. Do you feel that kind of thing would go nicely with the Ce Me dresses?

OP posts:
suburbandweller · 11/09/2012 21:38

Yep, I think either type of jacket would look good based on mine. It's a very versatile type of dress as Ruari said. Hope you are happy with whatever you buy once it arrives!

scripsi · 11/09/2012 22:25

I'll let you know! Am going off to Zara tomorrow to try on jackets in real life and perhaps commit to one.

Hi Scripsi sorry didnt get back sooner, how did you get on at Zara? I also noticed Top shop had some great jackets in the sale. I saw them online. I have found that if the dress is versatile you can dress it with any jacket really. Dont get one too long to short, one finishing a few inches below your lower back will give you height and also not hide your dress too much. I have worn a leather jacket, denim jacket and a blazer with my favourite ceme dress. Just make sure you feel comfortable. Enjoy your shopping trips.

Pufflemum · 12/09/2012 18:00

I love Me and Em dresses, they always look fab and wash well. Don't suppose anyone has ny current discount codes?

scripsi · 13/09/2012 18:44

Thanks Ruari, nothing to report as my much-wanted zara blazers weren't in my local store, but I do have a pre-starting-work meeting tomorrow in London (yikes) so I can get to a bigger Zara and perhaps also try topshop and mango. Good advice on jacket length! I want to add some height so just below small of back would be great.
Pufflemum I haven't found any discount codes but am working on it!

HoopDePoop · 13/09/2012 20:50

Hopefully I love the Me and Em cap sleeved dress, does it ever go into the sale?

Decameron · 13/09/2012 23:11

Pufflemum 11CVP20 for 20% off

Hopefully · 14/09/2012 08:53

hoop I think it did, briefly, but there were only a couple left (have vague recollections of no one being able to get a navy one a while back), but there are usually good codes kicking around, like Decam's one below.
