I have a very dry itchy scalp and have had for a few years. It's embarrassing, flaking all over my clothes and so annoyingly itchy. I've tried so many products but nothing has provided the miracle fix I'm desperate for. Anyone found it pls?

Thank you!

Have you tried a shampoo without Sodium Laueth sulfate it's an extremely harsh chemical (industrial oil stripper) found in most high street shampoos, soaps and shower gels. - but it foams well so hence it's use Hmm but imagine the drying effect that it has on your skin

You can get products without - you just have to shop about and READ the ingredients SLS usually appears near the top of the list. here's a selection you can get in the likes of holland and barratt

I'm currently using the dr organic stuff and it's made my hair silky soft

Boots sell a Naked range and waitrose have quite a few - I like the juicy kids shampoo

Do you get dry itchy skin on your face aswell, especially around your nose/chin? It could be seborrheic dermatitis which is treatable. Your GP can reccomend or prescribe shampoos, creams and/or tablets to manage it.

I have psoriasis particularly bad on my scalp. I tried every shampoo going and a load of different prescriptions from my doctor but nothing had a long lasting effect.
The best thing Ive found so far is E45 shampoo. I dont use conditioner but if my hair is feeling dry I use argan oil on it when its towel dried. Ive only been using it for 3 weeks but it has really cleared up my scalp so far and no more itchiness!
Also my scalp is quite sensitive and Ive found its better the less I wash my hair so I only wash it twice a week now.

Have you tried Cradle cap shampoo? I'm finding that it does help a bit, although nothing seems to work for longer than a week or two at a time. Eucerin worked for a couple of weeks too, as did several others, but never for longer than that.

BuntCadger · 07/09/2012 23:14

OP I posted similar a little while ago. I had scales on my head Sad. Been using my babies cradle cap denotnox (sp) now daily for about 3 or 4 weeks and it's helping. Itching not there and less flakes.

What Furball said. I've ditched SLS in everything and my scalp's no longer sore and flaky.

DameDoom · 08/09/2012 00:39

What about Liz Earle shampoo?

knitknack · 08/09/2012 06:06

I had this but the body shop ginger shampoo has completely cleared it!

cazza40 · 08/09/2012 08:32

Good old Head and Shoulders worked for me really quickly - i think it is the sensitive scalp version ?

Kaloobear · 08/09/2012 08:36

I have scalp psoriasis so I empathise. As others have said-I wash my hair as infrequently as possible, usually twice a week, using a very mild non stripping shampoo and conditioner such as Naked or Liz Earle. I also leave it to air dry as much as possible and really try not to touch my scalp.

valiumredhead · 08/09/2012 15:47

L'Oreal Elvive anti dandruff - blue bottle with an orange lid or The Body Shop's ginger shampoo is fantastic and very gentle.

I have scalp psoriasis and a generally dry itchy scalp - and have suffered like you have for years (no wearing black for me).
I have a scalp treatment from my GP which goes someway to keeping it under control. But Eucerin shampoo has been my savior! I used it every day for 3 months, then every other day, once a week, and now hardly ever. I get virtually no flakes, hardly have to use my scalp treatment at all. It also makes your hair very soft and shiny. I use with my normal conditioner.
I can wear black again Grin

I have heard good things about Eucerin shampoo, the hand cream they do is amazing stuff so if it's half as good as that I'm not surprised it works!

May09Bump · 09/09/2012 01:48

Oilatum shampoo from boots - brilliant. Takes about two weeks to see difference, so if you try give it time. Used it on DR's advice fo babys head eczema too and it cleared it when other presciption based stuff didn't.

I get an itchy scalp from time to time if I use some kind of product in my hair (gel, mousse etc).

A few weeks ago I noticed a lot of flakes in my hair but only close to my hairline. I tried a few things but they didnt work, so I rubbed aqueous cream quite liberally into the area, and left it for a few hours before washing it out, then using my normal conditioner.

After a few days it had all gone.

Pinkflipflop · 09/09/2012 05:23

I use this Aveda scalp benefits shampoo and was just thinking today that my reviously itchy, flaky scalp has finally gone!

Pinkflipflop · 09/09/2012 05:24

As others have said you have to persevere for a couple of weeks, washing every second or third day, to see the difference!
