Will Rosehip Oil give me spots?

So I've been a sheep and bought the Rosehip oil after reading all the rave reviews on here. However I've has a bad experience in the past with a facial oil which brought me out in terrible cystic spots. My skin is extremely oily and somewhat spot prone anyway. I'm off to a wedding this weekend. If I start using the Rosehip oil now, is there a chance of me being all spotty for the weekend or will I be all glowy skinned? Grin.

I would wait until after the wedding.

I started using Rosehip oil a couple of weeks ago and had a break out, has settled down now though. I wouldn't risk it personally.

Enjoy the wedding!

Thanks for your reply Zwitterion. I couldn't resist trying some this morning and my skin is much less oily today. But if there's a chance it's not the holy grail and will break me out I'll hold off for a few days.

My skin is oily and gets easily congested. It clogged me up a bit - blackheads, generally more oily etc. I only use it on my crepey dryish under eye area now. Interestingly, I can use the Clarins lotus oil on my face with no problems.

Househunter · 07/09/2012 16:18

Oh no. I was hoping it would be the answer to all my problems. And at a budget price too. What is the Clarins one meant to do?

I wouldn't start messing radically with skincare just before a big 'do' myself. No.

An asprin face mask might be worth a crack.

Silibilimili · 07/09/2012 20:29

What's an aspirin face mask mrs?

Househunter · 07/09/2012 20:41

Have also discovered aspirin face masks mrslettuce. silibilimili, it involves crushing a few aspirin and mixing with a few drops of water. Good at smoothing the skin but unfortunately no good at getting rid of the oil. Will def do one tomorrow though. Smile

What it says on the tin Wink

3 uncoated aspirin and a few drops of water mixed to a paste and left on for 10 or 15 minutes. Drip the water onto the aspirin and let it stand for a few minutes and mash-em-up with a teaspoon. When it's been on long enough just splash on a wee bit of water and gently scrub a wee bit. Not loads, not hard.

You can use rosewater, lavender water or the like if you've got it, oh and adding 1/2 an aspirin worth of cornflower to the aspirin paste stops it flaking off as it dries.

Aspirin has lots of salicylic acid...

MrsLettuce · 07/09/2012 20:45

x posts

DP has really very oily skin and it's always oil free and even slightly dry after an aspirin mask. Looks all glowy and lovely.

Househunter · 07/09/2012 21:13

Ah, thanks for the cornflour tip. Will have to give that a go. Maybe I don't leave it on for long enough as it seems to improve things but nothing dramatic.

OP posts:
MrsLettuce · 07/09/2012 21:22

The cornflower probably absorbs some oil now I actually think for two seconds! I just shoved some in one time 'cause I was sick of the flaking but it does seem to work better with it added.

Silibilimili · 07/09/2012 21:29

Thank you mrs.

Will try it. I have dry/normal skin but do have reddish areas as skin in sensitive on cheeks etc. maybe this will help.

QuinnFabray · 07/09/2012 21:34

Salicylic acid is the business when it comes to oily congested spot prone skin. I use products with salicylic acid in, never tried aspirin though.

It is a little drying though, so I use the Clarins lotus oil afterweards, which adds moisture back in and kind of balances my skin, without clogging it again, which is what the Rosehip oil did.

Househunter · 08/09/2012 07:49

Hmm, a dilemma. Even though I only used the Rosehip oil once my skin is much less oily. However, I do have a new spot (which as I am prone to them may have happened anyway). But even after the wedding, I'm not sure whether to continue as I'm desperate for less oily skin (having even tried roaccutane) but the last thing I need is lots of spots.

It's making my skin less oily at night but not during the day. I'm quite happy with it so far....

SavoyCabbage · 08/09/2012 09:26

I am doing the OCM at night with a rosehip oil moisturise afterwards. My skin is definitely less oily.

Pinot · 08/09/2012 14:02

It hasn't broken me out in spots. I love it - better than argan oil for my face as it seems to absorb, like a serum.

Aspirin masks also v good, you can use aloe vera gel rather than water to mix it with and that's nice and calming.

TheWonderfulFanny · 08/09/2012 14:13

Over used rosehip oil as a base for a night cream for years. Skin was a bit stingy after a couple of days but soon settled down and now I wouldn't be without it.

I do have Sahara-dry skin though - if my skin was oily I think id mix it with a dryer oil, and not use it as a day serum unless I wanted my make up to slide down to my collar bones.

The thing that always gives me spots in quantity though is jojoba oil. And I'm be only had about 10 spots in my life so far...

TheWonderfulFanny · 08/09/2012 14:15

Not over used. Can't remember what the word should have been though [migraine]

SavoyCabbage · 08/09/2012 14:17

I've used

TheWonderfulFanny · 08/09/2012 14:35

Thank you! Blush

Househunter · 08/09/2012 17:38

thewonderfulfanny what would a dryer oil be? Am new to all this oil malarkey Smile

OP posts:
TheWonderfulFanny · 08/09/2012 18:20

erm... can't remember the different ones without finding books and looking up... iirc rosehip is a relatively dry oil, whereas something like olive oil is very much not. 'dry' oils don't sit on your skin so much. Hoping someone else comes along and has a list Grin

Muststudy · 08/09/2012 19:04

So is it aspirin face mask or rosehip oil or oil cleansing or olive pil or coconut oil or sudocrem

Can't keep up ladies
