Tinted moisturiser, foundation, mineral makeup or BB cream??? HELP!

My current foundation (bourjois 8h sleep or somethibg similar) is running out. I'm not entirely appy with it so what should I buy instead? Confused

I'm 31 with pretty good skin (so dont want thick coverage) apart from a oily t zone and dry cheeks and chin. Hmm I don't have a lot of time/ money/ inclination for multiple products so what would be best?

Tinted moisturiser? Foundation? Mineral makeup? A BB cream (not sure what they do!) or something else?

I'm a little but clueless Blush

I'm also clueless in the scheme of things and don't really understand what a BB cream is, as it seems to mean all sorts of things, but I can recommend you Loreal "Nude Magique" (sorry about the poncy name) which I've started using recently. It is weird because it comes out of the tube looking grey and grainy, but you rub it in and get a natural-looking, very light coverage that is also moisturising, but works for oily skin too (which is me). It's about a tenner I think so maybe worth trying?

I have a few the Clinique city factor 40, liz Earle bb cream and garnier bb cream, medium.
I actually like the garnier best as its quick to put on ( like moisturiser, rub into hands and then on face) quite cheap too, £8-10 , light us quite pale and medium, quite dark so I mx them and can use them yeAr round.

I like the Garnier BB cream too - bit more coverage than a tinted moisturiser but much less heavy than a foundation. I use the oily/combination skin version rather than the usual one. Only thing is that the lightest colour is still not very light so not a great option if you are v pale.

I believe the true BB cream aficionados say the Korean ones are much better but I want something I can buy easily in Boots Grin

PS Dermalogica tinted moisturiser is another favourite of mine, it gives a lovely glow, less coverage than a BB cream though and it's not cheap (but then you don't need to use separate moisturiser so that saves £)

CaptainHoratioWragge · 06/09/2012 12:18

I've got the Loreal "Nude Magique" one as well and I find it really good. Its light, so you don't look caked, but people keep saying to me 'you look fresh' as opposed to 'you look tired' which is what they normally say!

I got it at cheapsmells.com where it was £7.99 with free delivery, which i thought was pretty good, its quite a big tube and you don't need much.

I'm pretty fair skinned, and I bought it in the lightest shade, and it is still quite dark for me, though, so be careful with the shade.

H
Oriflame sell a good make up base/ tinted moisturiser. It really brightens the skin.
Loreal foundation is brilliant, nice and light too. It is the one that matches your skin tone. I don't remember what it's called.

ElizaDoMore · 06/09/2012 12:41

I recently tried a sample of Liz Earle skin tint and quite liked it.

minipie · 06/09/2012 13:22

Ok now I'm interested in the L'Oreal one. Has anyone pale tried it and can comment on the colour? I'm looking for one a bit paler than the light Garnier BB.

Big vote for the no7 bb cream here, its wonderful and not too greasy.

cheesymonster · 06/09/2012 17:52

I use no 7 BB cream but Bourjois healthy mix foundation on days when I want more coverage. Both are really good.

BlameItOnTheCuervo · 06/09/2012 17:57

Oh yes, the healthy mix mixes well with the no7 bb cream too on bad days.

Go into a department store, sit at any counters that take your fancy, ask them to match your colour and then tell them you dont want to buy something you're not 100% happy with so can you have a sample.

I've just bought Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer. It's bloody brilliant and coverage is build able so easy to cover dodgier areas (my nose and chin). Colour varies between the oil free and normal one for the same named colour which threw me. They were happy to give me a sample.

Even better was the YSL touche eclat foundation. Amazing. Maybe a bit spendy but seriously, wow. She gave me samples too after I had decided to buy in my colour and a lighter colour for winter.

The best BB cream bar none is Bobbi Brown. It is totes fantastic, i cant get over how brill it is.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 06/09/2012 19:35

This is all good - keep it coming! :)

Can anyone explain the pros/ cons/ benefits of each type of coverage. I understand tinted moisturiser and foundation but am confused about mineral make up and BB creams. Confused

Comrade - much as I'd love to sit at the counters I can't afford an expensive habit. Hmm

Mineral powder is literally a powder and with a special mineral powder brush you buff it into/onto the skin. It can look incredibly natural as long as you get the colour right.
BB cream is more of a beauty product than a make up one iykwim. You dont need a moisturiser and the BB one contains vitamins and skin brightening proprieties. It feels quite thick compared to a tinted moisturiser. It depends on your needs but i love the Bobbi Brown one because i like a good coverage, i like a slight matt effect as opposed to a dewy or luminous look. Dont get me wrong the Bobbi one makes you look fresh and bright but it is more matt than anything else. I love it and so does my daughter who tried it for the first time last week. She's now decided she loves it so much she wants her own but in the mean time as taken mine to Bestival.

I happened upon the maybeline bb cream - called dream fresh!

I normally use Lancôme 24 hour stuff, but that is a pretty full face affair.

Used this bb cream for the first time today. It is quite sheer, light, and has a nice natural finish. I just used over my usual serum. Also was v impressed that after a day of work, I didn't have the usual shiny face syndrome.

Not bad for £7 odd.

Another vote for no7 BB cream Smile
