So I have nails finally and I grew them myself. But.... I need good nail enamel /varnish recommendations.

I painted my short square nails last night with Revlon Vixen ( dark plum ) waited a while then toddled off to bed to give them time to harden overnight.
This morning they have dulled down and have fabric marks on them.

I need best varnish makes and maybe a hardener to put over.
I am 60 so be gentle on the colours for older hands.

I recommend Essie nail varnishes, great colours, easy to apply and long lasting. Seche Vite top coat is brilliant, best value is bought on Ebay or Amazon.

HTH

There is nothing wrong with revlon, I love their polishes :)

Don't paint them before bed Grin

Seche Vite is ace.

lisaro · 04/09/2012 17:02

Well done! Another one here recommending Seche Vite. Strong and fast drying.

I only paint my nails before bed or I ruin them. Boot no 7 60 second top coat is really good, as is their base coat. I would use a base coat if you are planning on wearing dark colours as they wil stain your nails.

Rimmel Pro for polish - more expensive brands have never beaten it for me.

Top coat- a Sally Hansen drying one. In a red bottle with a white cap/brush.

trumpton · 04/09/2012 17:47

Ah thank you . I did my nails about an hour before bed and didn't touch anything ( honest Gov !)
Will try the 60 second top coat. I already use a base coat.

I find that happens if I paint my nails before bed, usually get hair marks in them. I use Nails Inc Kensington Caviar top coat which is fast drying and long lasting....I also try to either run my nails under cold water or walk outside for a few minutes after I paint my nails and it seems to set them a bit more.

I love nails inc and opi polishes. Steer clear of Chanel, bloody useless stuff.

TellyBug · 04/09/2012 18:04

Yes, Chanel is shite! I occasionally slap on the colour when I get to work and it dries for a couple of hours.

ComradeJing · 04/09/2012 19:38

I'm a bit in love with the revlon 60 second polishes. The dark colours are hard to make perfect but the light ones are perfect for a quick slick of colour that dries instantly.

The colour only lasts a few days but it's so fast drying that I don't care. Having something on my nails is the only thing that prevents me from ripping them short.

Nagoo · 04/09/2012 20:38

The Sally Hansen dropper bottle stuff is pretty good, I had forgotten about that.

Jackstini · 05/09/2012 08:20

Use Gel polish - is dry immediately after curing - can even put gloves on straight after a manicure! Is also glass-like shiny for 2 weeks.

If you like plummy colours Sensationail Sugar Plum is nice, Mauve Maven is a bit more neutral - could be a gentler colour for older skin.

trumpton · 05/09/2012 19:34

I bought the Sally Hansen Quick Dry today . So will give that a go tonight. The gel starter kit is out of my range and I am a bit concerned about the time taken to remove the gel . Knowing me I would probably bite it off.
