Dyeing a trench

I have a bright pink trench which I love but am thinking the colour might be a bit too much. Would it be easy to dye ? And would navy be the safest/most classic option?

If your trench is polyester, it cannot be dyed with regular Dylon dye. If it is 100% cotton and is not waxed / coated with a protective coat, you can try dyeing it. The sewing thread will remain the original color.

Classic trench colors: camel, navy, black, bright red. Color addition rules apply so if you dye your coat navy it might turn purple.

I've successfully used Dylon machine washing dyes for jeans, cotton knits and blouses. Have never dyed coat, but am wondering whether I should dye a safari jacket navy.

Hmmm just checked, it's 58% cotton, 42 nylon. I'm reading the Ines de la Fressange style book & am feeling inspired (& by the W &A crew-as was) - camel would be my 1st choice but thought the pink might not be covered by camel ( I've not done this before in case you couldn't tell!!)

Camel would only work if original coat is pale- white or cream or camel I'm afraid.

Try charcoal or black. (Navy may go purple ad Dona says). Not sure if dye will take to rayon, but it's made from natural fibres so semi synthetic so may work.

Let us know how you get on

Sorry, didn't read properly. Nylon, not Rayon. Probably won't take then.

I dyed a cotton / nylon mix sweater from mid green to navy a while back. The dye did take and the end result was not patchy but I got dark blue green instead of pure navy. Camel is not an option in your case - black and purple and red would probably work. You will probably not get a pure blue unless you start with a white, gray or blue. Because of the high synthetics content, you will get lighter shade anyway.

Dyeing is addictive. I will experiment with an old wool sweater dress and cobalt dye. And will also dye an old silk shirt navy or black.

Dona does silk take well? I've only dyed cotton so far. There's no reason why it shouldn't take I guess? Just wondered what your experience has been.
