I've just been violated by a woman with a piece of cotton and she's removed my identity!

Or rather, I had my eyebrows thraded today, discussed how I liked myshape and theyy just needed tidying and the stray hairs underneath removing.. I now have pencil thin teenager eyebrows that look totally daft on me and don't suit me!!!

Bloody stupid thing to do.. ah well, one of life's experiences I can now cross off my list..

Can you imagine.

NOOOOO Grin

Levantine · 03/09/2012 14:11

I was given middle eastern eyebrows in my local cheapo place, sort of long and thing. I looked really strange

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 03/09/2012 14:12

Nowt worse than people being over zealous and giving you 90s brows.

MrsDelaBilliere · 03/09/2012 14:54

I've never been brave enough to have mine threaded, I tend to stick to waxing, which I've found reasonably painless.

NigellasGuest · 03/09/2012 15:00

I found having my upper lip waxed has given me broken veins around that area. At least, I think that's what caused them. So I now have it threaded. Painful yes, but no pain no gain when it comes to upper lip grooming!

PessimisticMissPiggy · 03/09/2012 19:40

GlaikitFizzog oh my! Have you recovered yet?

bishboschone · 03/09/2012 19:46

I am lucky I have blonde eyebrows as I cannot tolerate the pain of plucking so I don't imagine I would fair well with threading . I have mine waxed once it twice a year when I get my eyelashes dyed . It hurts but it's over quickly . I absolutely hate the trend for very thin tattooed eyebrows . I think it's actually really ageing to have thin eyebrows .

MikeLitorisRings · 03/09/2012 19:47

Threading is the single most painful thingI have ever had done. Without exception.

Can't blame the woman doing it as she does my mum's and she doesn't feel a thing.

I stick to waxing as I cant pluck my own either.

£7 in debenhams..

GlaikitFizzog · 03/09/2012 19:48

There is no photographic evidence thank god. But it was really awful and thankfully a long time ago! My hair was also a rather vibrant red at the time, so I drew a lot of attention to my head area!

My eyebrows now are rather unkempt, but the have a nice natural shape when I do tweezer them it's only a few straggly hairs!

And on reading my last post back, I am obviously still deeply affected by the trauma going by the spelling! :o

Margerykemp · 03/09/2012 19:50

I really don't understand why people willingly put themselves through pain.

It is self harm IMO.

SoupDragon · 03/09/2012 22:03

Self harm... LOLOL. Oh, please...

PessimisticMissPiggy · 04/09/2012 07:07

Self harm? But you're paying for it to be done

brighthair · 04/09/2012 17:21

I do my own. V pale hair so I shape with tweezers and threading (learnt from YouTube) then colour with an eyebrow pencil

prettybird · 04/09/2012 17:25

JennyPiccolo - where was the Asian place you went to? I might try it. Only ever nominally plucked my eyebrows but am conscious as I get older that I perhaps should take a bit more care with my grooming Grin

Erm, my dp couldn't give the tiniest of shits if I do any of those things complexity. I wax my eyebrows because I prefer the way they look waxed.

Unless I stop grooming or wearing heels I am buying into woman hating?

Ok.

londonone · 04/09/2012 17:42

Interesting that Andrea Dworkin should choose to comment on the painful ness of things with which I doubt she had experience. I have never had any pain from shaving my armpits or curling my hair, I am not sure they could be called painful by any stretch of the imagination

SoupDragon · 04/09/2012 17:58

Calling it "self harm" is kind of offensive to those who have a true mental health issue with harming.

It is also utter bollocks, as is that nonsense by Andrea whatever her name is.

Prettybird, it's called beautique on gt western rd. I just wandered in off the street.

Margerykemp · 05/09/2012 09:05

Soup- body dystrophic disorder is a mental health problem.

Harming yourself or paying someone to harm you is self harm. It is really quite simple.

MikeLitorisRings · 05/09/2012 09:12

Margery comparing having your eyebrows threaded to someone having a compulsion to cause themselves pain is insulting.

They are not the same thing in any way.

Having beauty treatments, wearing heels or curling your hair is not the same having body dysmorphia.

IAmSheWhoMustBeObeyed · 05/09/2012 09:18

Hey! I thread my own top lip- learnt off youtube and do the top of my eyebrows. Can't do the rest on my own so pluck.
I went to get my eyebrows waxed once and came out looking like Marlene Dietrich. The woman who did it was obviously upset by my reaction, poor thing she was so pleased with the job she had done.
Margery I have mixed feelings about body hair removal. My view is not as extreme as yours would appear to be but I do wish women did not have to alter themselves all the time. Can I ask what you would do if you had thick black hairs growing out of your chin and a monobrow?

IAmSheWhoMustBeObeyed · 05/09/2012 09:21

Margery I meant.

SoupDragon · 05/09/2012 10:53

Margery, it isn't the same at all.

Presumably brushing the tangles out of your hair is self harm/body dystrophic disorder so you don't do that. Hmm
