School shoes for Year 7 girls?

Mintyy · 31/08/2012 11:51

Shopping for dd's school shoes this afternoon, hooray Hmm.

I have no idea what is considered acceptable to 11/12 year old girls (and I don't think dd does either, bless her). Obvs don't want her to be sneered at in all new quite scary secondary school.

Any suggestions?

My son is going into y7 and apparently only primary school children wear Velcro.

I've noticed that most secondary school girls go for ballet pumps

Theas18 · 31/08/2012 12:00

At dd2 school-she's year 9 they actually mostly wear quite reasonable sites.ballet pumps not applied. Remember they wall a lot at secondary.
Last sept she had clarks bootleg jazz shoe style ones and lots of them had the same. Brogues too.also the clarks/startrite thin strap Mary Janes.

florencepink · 31/08/2012 12:02

Can't link on my phone but my dd of the same age chose the black lace up brogue type shoes from Clarks bootleg. The girl who fitted them said they had been the best selling ones for that age group hth

weblette · 31/08/2012 12:03

At dd's school ballet pumps are banned - they have to wear a closed style shoe as it's safer for science/tech.
She's got Clarks Bootleg brogues, as have most of her mates.

Mintyy · 31/08/2012 12:28

Thanks all. Have looked at Clarks and Start Rite websites and a bit disappointed at the lack of choice tbh.

Hey ho, I guess its a good thing they all want to conform at that age!

brogues are 'the shoe to have' according to DD and her friends, all going into yr 7

sweetheart · 31/08/2012 12:37

I would agree that Brogues are the in thing right now. Dd wanted these but i refused to pay £40 for a pair of shoes so we found a cheaper alternative at Brantano but they are everywhere at the moment so you won't have any trouble finsing some.

Mabelface · 31/08/2012 12:43

My 13 year old daughter has just got these www.startriteshoes.com/girls/school-shoes/burford and they've been very popular with other girls her age.

GreenEyesAndHam · 31/08/2012 12:43

Yes I also have an 11yo sheep, Clarks brogues here too

NorbertDentressangle · 31/08/2012 12:44

They all seem to be wearing the lace-up black brogue style ones around here.

Theas18 · 31/08/2012 14:50

It may be sheepy but this is one fashion I'm very happy to encourage lol

MrsMeow · 31/08/2012 15:00

Brogues are in in DDs school at the min too, she's just going into yr 8. They have some nice ones in Clarks for £40.

MrsMeow · 31/08/2012 15:01

Whoops sorry, they've already been linked to. They had v similar in New Look as well for about £15.

bigTillyMint · 31/08/2012 15:03

Mintyy, DD wears Kickers - the black ankle boot type. She also had a pair of black pumps passed on from my goddaughter and a pair of black brogues, but the Kickers win out every time!

More brogues here as school are huffy about flat pumps.

Must remember to label them as I think there are going to be about 50 pairs.

Awful choice, she wanted court shoes with elastic across (she accepts that schools on a slope with lots of steps, stairs and odd hight kerbs. Very slip on shoe unfriendly.)

NoComet · 31/08/2012 15:08

Oops didn't mean to post.

The only alternative like that had ugly rather childish bows on them.

NotMostPeople · 31/08/2012 15:10

Brogues here too or ballet pumps but nothing else

PippiL · 31/08/2012 15:31

Haven't got to this stage yet. Dd is 8 and wouldn't have brogues despite me trying ti tell her they were "in".

But I'm also glad that secondary schools seem to be against ballet pumps. I hate to imagine how many kids are going to grow up with terrible feet due to basically wearing slippers all day.

I speak from experience as someone with terrible feet...and I was made to wear clarks til I was 18.
