Anyone had a makeup lesson?

I am 35 so should really have makeup figured out by now, but other than basic foundation, lipstick and occasional eye shadow ( applied with fingers) I haven't got a clue.

Has anyone ever had a makeup lesson! And if so, where did you go, and was it worth it?!

TIA

I haven't as I learned the basics from my DM but I've been watching Lisa Eldridge's videos on youtube and my makeup skills have massively improved. I would reccomend givimng these a go first as lessons can be very expensive although probably cheaper than everything I've brought on LE's recommendation

Yes, I ended up looking like Alice Cooper, which is odd as that is actually my name.

Department store counters show you how, say you want to try it and and see how well it lasts through the day/ show your mum/ waiting for payday/ deciding your bday present from dp and ask them to write down what they used.

I went to a make-up evening at one of the Space NK stores and it was great fun as I went with a girlfirend and enjoyed a giggle and a few free glasses of champagne! The Laura Mercier make-up artist showed you how and what to apply but you did it all yourself so you didnt end up looking like a clown with far too much on! Warning however I ended up buying 4-5 items (helped by the champagne) and my credit card winced slightly with pain!! Great evening though and really helpful.

Look up Pixiwoo on YouTube too-they are brilliant and have some great videos aimed at explaining the basics as well as lots of more detailed looks.

Also, Bobbi Brown counters will give you a full lesson, write down all the steps and charge you nothing-of course they want you to buy stuff but you don't have to!

Thanks everyone - lots of good ideas. I'm going to be busy on you tube tonight!

Bobby Brown sounds good too - never tried their stuff before, will leave the credit card at home though as I have no willpower!

I've had several over the years as I really enjoy makeup and find it's a great way of trying new products and learning new tips. I've really enjoyed Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier the most, though the ones I've had at MAC have also been good. I booked my mum in for one with Bobbi Brown the last time she came to visit me (and treated her to a few products), they showed her how to use everything and she absolutely loved it.

Thanks violet - I'll be down to Bobbi Brown as soon as mat leave starts then!
