Is this dress good enough for a wedding?

Have a wedding in about 10 days time and I don't have much money. Plus I need a dress that I can breastfeed in (I don't want a specific BF dress, most are frumpy and if not, expensive!).

This one I can hoick up if needs be (DC is just gone 2yrs so don't need a lot of feeding but will ask once or twice during the day and also might be a good way of keeping her quiet during the ceramony etc if she is making a fuss!), so only for emergencies really!

Is it too simple for a wedding? Has anyone seen it IRL? And what accessories?

It's nice but not sure if suitable for feeding. Will dd fit under it?

SoupDragon · 28/08/2012 13:33

You can't hoik that up to breastfeed!

choceyes · 28/08/2012 13:38

Grin well I do wear shift dresses during the day that I do hoik up. Oh I don't know now..hhmmm...maybe it would be a bit tight. Haven't tried it on ofcourse. I'm quite short at 5'2 so if I hoik it up DD will cover most of me anyway. And if I wore black tights with it then it wouldn't seem that bad...no?

choceyes · 28/08/2012 13:39

And I'm sure I would need think black tights with it. Wedding is in Ireland.

I just can't see how you can hoik that up and fit a 2 year underneath without showing your knickers :o

nickelcognito · 28/08/2012 13:45

i wouldn't hoick that up to BF! Shock

I agree with Soupy - surely your knickers would show?!

choceyes · 28/08/2012 13:45

I think I'm going to have to take DD with me and see for myself in the dressing room if it will be feasible!

ENormaSnob · 28/08/2012 13:46

Sorry I think it would be v inappropriate to hook that up to feed

ENormaSnob · 28/08/2012 13:47

Hoick not hook.

choceyes · 28/08/2012 13:50

OK lets say I give up on that dress. But all the BF dresses out there are just soooooo frumpy. I think I might have to just wear a normal dress and bribe DD with chocolate instead and nip into the loo for an occasional feed.....please tell me that'll work?!

BellaOfTheBalls · 28/08/2012 13:57

You definitely couldn't hoick that up to feed!

What you need is a v neck wrap dress. Something like this www.kaleidoscope.co.uk/web/main/ProductDisplay.asp?An=0&N=0&Au=P_MasterItem&Nu=P_MasterItem&A=65D426_10&cm_mmc=GOOGLEBASE--Froogle--Fashion_Dresses_WrapDresses-_-65D426&catreqmedia=K1328&ordermedia=K0688&name=10PERCENT&orderoffercode=PP4P&entry=3

Or this? It's petite so might be better.

I had a great Grecian style dress from Dorothy Perkins that was perfect for feeding in but thy have stopped making it, boo!

choceyes · 28/08/2012 14:06

But....v-necks only work if you wear a vest underneath to lift up, for me anyway as my boobs are quite big, 30F, so I'd expose too much boob if I wore it without a vest.
In my exprience of feeding by hoicking up a dress, the child covers up all my knicker area, but in a wedding situation I'd rather not not do this either, having thought about it.
So now I am looking for any old dress and use some bribery techniques with the DD!

I can just see the AIBU if someone breastfed a toddler at a wedding in that dress.

DrucillaDemelza · 28/08/2012 14:13

In fact I don't think i've ever seen anyone breastfeed by hoiking up their whole dress.

SoupDragon · 28/08/2012 14:19

A wrap is your friend wrt breast exposure :)

Teeb · 28/08/2012 14:32

I've never known of anyone lifting a whole dress up for breastfeeding. Surely your sides/back would be on display?

Would this or this work for you op?

choceyes · 28/08/2012 14:47

When I've hoicked up a whole dress (usually roomy tunics) to BF, I've always been wearing thick tights or leggings. And there is always enough fabric to over my sides and back, it is never an issue.

Although I can see that this dress would be too fitted/tight to BF in, as in not enough spare material to drape over the sides and back.

I've never used a wrap before so I'm not sure how to work that really. It would be too fiddly for me having not done it before. Thanks for the idea though!

OP posts:
choceyes · 28/08/2012 14:49

Teeb the first dress would have worked if I had small boobs and I was used to a wrap, and I have big boobs so don't think it would work. And how on earth can you BF in the second one?! The draping can't be lowered down that much surely?

OP posts:
GnocchiNineDoors · 28/08/2012 14:57

Surely you can't be envisaging lifting up your whole dress to BF your child in a wedding? Even with tights.

What about something with buttons down the front like this?

Or a top and skirt?

KatoPotato · 28/08/2012 15:02

You cannot be serious? The dress is so close-fitting it would be rucked up round your oxters and would be very uncomfy?

BunnyLebowski · 28/08/2012 15:06

What everyone else said. T'would be indecent.

Plus Grin at Kato for use of oxters.

choceyes · 28/08/2012 15:11

I said upthread I've changed my mind and I'm not going to BF in that dress! I'm going to have to distract DD instead and go to the loo to feed her if she really makes a fuss.

Anyway....any other dress recommendations for me? I'm 5'2, size 8, big of boob and slim of leg. I don't like my tummy much so not something close fitting around the tummy, but I do have good legs so like to wear something short. I'd like an embellished neckline too if there is anything like that, if anyone seen any. Or even an embellished collar that I could smarten up a another dress?

MainlyMaynie · 28/08/2012 15:16

Shock You're prepared to lift up your whole dress to feed, but you're worried about showing too much breast if you pull a wrap dress down! I have bigger breasts than you and I pull wrap dresses down. Elomi bras are good as they provide cover at the top.

NarkedRaspberry · 28/08/2012 15:19

A wedding in Ireland in September? That's a great excuse for a wrap/pashmina, which will stop you shivering and provide cover for BF. I'd go for a halter neck/wrap-around dress + a pashmina.
