since having dc3 7 months ago ive let myself go a bit and need a make over. the diet has begun (kind of) and i've binned all my old make-up so i'm ready for all new.i've been wearing the same colours since my teens and need a bit of updating. what do i need and what will suit me? I'm mid 30's, medium complexion, light blonde and blue eyes.

good moisturiser- with high SPF
decide on your coverage- good este Lauder double wear foundation is great as are bare minerals (but I didn't like the powderyness of it all)
blusher- with your colouring I'd try benefit dandelion
eye brows threaded monthly and grab a pencil- I like my dual soap and glory highlighter and brow pencil
mascara- I haven't found a good 1 yet but steer clear from Rimmel, benefit and Ysl.
eye shadow- I'm loving bougaiis?? French sounding cheap one but benefit do good pallets as do urban decay
soap and glory lip gloss is good

My complexion is similar except I have medium/light brown hair (at the moment!). My staples are:

Blusher - NARS - Orgasm (more coral) and Deep Throat (pinker)
Bronzer - YSL - Terre Saharienne Collector in Sunkissed (my first ever bronzer and I love it)
Foundation - Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation is bliss - really effective but honestly doesn't look like you're wearing makeup unless you layer it on
Eyeliner pencil - MAC Teddy (brown with a gold sheen), MAC Phone Number (much much better than black, as I have just discovered - slate grey).
Go-to eyeshadow - Stila Kitten and/or MAC Satin Taupe
Eyebrows - MAC Satin Taupe with a firm slanted brush.
Lips - Chanel Egerie is my fave just now, but I keep finding Lancome Juicy Tuber in Pamplemousse in my bag & it does the trick for gloss.

Go to a Bobbi Brown counter as they do brilliant make-overs, no hard sell. Personally I love their liquid foundation which I've used for about a year and have never found better. Once you've been inspired by their colour & technique ideas for you, you can always go elsewhere for cheaper versions.

What's your skin like? Dry? Oily? Foundation needs to be chosen for a specific skin type, especially if oily.

My go to items are, blusher: Nars orgasm, Nars deep throat or Benefit Coralista, Foundation: Guerlain parure extreme, or Armani Lasting Silk ( have oily skin ) if I'm feeling flush, Estee Lauder Double Wear as a slightly cheaper option, Rimmel 25 hour as a budget option. Matte brown MAC eyeshadow to fill in eyebrows and lightly line lower lashes, with a flat angled brush, Benefit They're Real Mascara, or Barry M's Lash Modelling, as a budget option, Revlon just bitten kissable balm stains ( stupid name ) are my current favourite lip product. MAC spf 50 prep and prime as a my sunscreen and primer ( great for oily skin ).

If you're skin's not oily, a BB cream might be good. Estee Lauder's is great, with Maybelline's a good budget option.

good idea hollybolly that might give me some inspiration

my skin is normal/dry. i don't really use a foundation, just a little compact powder (or is that a foundation?)

I second bobbi brown. I have tinted moisturiser and powder and blusher from there. Mascara wise I'm using max factor at the moment but also no7 navy (am blonde, blue eyed too).

It depends how used to wearing make up you are tbh. I would Go for something that takes no more than 5 minutes to sort out. So...

Tinted moisturizer like Bobbi brown, Laura mercier or bare minerals powder.

Mascara - I wear Mac opulash. Comes off in hot water like Estée lauder double wear so no need for a separate eye make up remover.

Cream blush - I love Liz earle in blossom

Eye pencil - so many good ones I think. Mac are good, so are the Chanel auto pencils as is the Liz earle one. Something soft and easy to apply. I only put it under my top lashes now so that my lashes look thicker.

I've stopped using eye shadow unless I'm doing smokey eyes.

Lipstick or gloss or stain. Again, so, so many out there. For lipstick I like some Mac ones (most are too brown for me), Bobbi brown (excellent for nude and better than nude colours even on me as I have very pink lips), Chanel, Tom ford (just amazing), and Estée Lauder (I've bought lots of the duty free triple packs with a mirror in the lid). Lots of cheapie lip stains by rimmel, 17, etc in boots at the moment.

Have a manicure, pedicure. Makes a huge difference to how you feel. Rimmel 60 second dry ones are brilliant as they dry so so fast that you can paint your nails whilst baby is napping and then get on and do other things.

Hth. My beauty routine has changed enormously since having dd 18 months ago.

I love Nivea tinted moisturiser as a cheap but good.product for everyday use.

Also, Benefit High Beam.
