Recommend me a makeup counter!

Decided my makeup bag needs an overhaul as haven't replaced a lot (except mascara) since I invested in some Clinique stuff about four years ago Blush

I need a pretty low maintenance as I like my lie-ins! Generally go for natural but like to look a bit more glam sometimes too. I generally wear powder foundation as can't be bothered with liquid unless it's a special occasion - used to love Virgin Vie One step face base but I can't get hold of it now Sad

I want a makeover in a dept store (prob John Lewis) to get some advice and stock up a bit. Please recommend me a brand counter to go to! Do I have to make appointments or can I just turn up?

Thanking you kindly in advance Grin

Bobbi brown. Best to make an appointment.

When I turned 30 I decided to ditch my sorry excuse for a make up bag and treat myself to a whole load of new decent stuff. My sister has worked in mineral cosmetics for a while and recommended Bare Essentials. I've not got much to compare it to but I'm dead impressed. Not horrendously expensive but easy to apply and looks very natural.

Didn't need an appointment by the way.

Bobbi Brown.

YSL I find the women helpful, don't look like freaks and give sensible advice rather than 'yes this new rainbow eyeshadow would look great on you'
The foundation is amazing and I've had the cream blusher since december and still loads left

I like MAC counter makeovers.

origamirose · 26/08/2012 21:18

Laura mercier. Its brilliant. I am also low maintenance but wear make up every day for work. Had a Laura mercier consultation about 2 years ago and haven't touched another brand since (is v expensive though but natural looking and good to skin).

Bobbi Brown all the way. They do full makeovers/lessons for free, the products are brilliant (I love everything except the mascaras), the SAs are really well trained and in my experience they don't tend to do a hard sell. I'm a freelance MUA and always recommend them. MAC do good lessons too but they tend towards more dramatic looks.

Another vote for Bobbi Brown. They specialise in bringing out your natural beauty. Lovely products, approachable, non-snooty staff. Go treat yourself!

Lazydaisy55 · 26/08/2012 23:29

Bobbi Brown assistants also do a " make- up bag overhaul" ie sort out your makeup bag for you. It's best to book because there is a list of different things you can choose.

I liked Benefit when I did this recently.....

domesticslattern · 27/08/2012 10:10

Laura Mercier or Bobbi Brown. Make an appt and/or try to go on a weekday morning early in the week. When you go, have an idea first of the max you want to spend as, even without the hard sell, you'll find them recommending £150 worth of products no problem.
