Bra CPR ..... Once a wire pops is there anyway to save it??

GlaikitFizzog · 26/08/2012 11:10

My favourite bra has popped a wire. In the past I've tried a couple of things to fix bras but nothing has worked. Is there a way out there that I've not heard of to bring my lovely bra back to life??

Obviously this is a first world problem :)

My DM swears by sewing ribbon over the top where the wire has come out. Not something I've personally tried though.

GlaikitFizzog · 26/08/2012 11:21

I've done ribbon. Anything that the wire can pop through. Maybe leather would work........

Why don't they make Kevlar bras!

I know bran I should, but it's my favourite one. It gives me cleavage, it doesn't hurt me, I can wear it under almost Nything.

Will try the ductape.

I have tried repairing bras in the past but nothing has worked for more than a couple of wears. So now I just bin and buy new. I am quite large though so perhaps this is more stressful to the wires?

GlaikitFizzog · 26/08/2012 15:45

I am ample of norkage too why, I shall admit defeat and go bra shopping.

Nowadays I only have a couple of well fitting bras at a time due to cost and I carefully launder them which definitely helps them last longer. Good luck with the shopping . . .

I was going to say take the other wire out as well and continue to wear, but then I saw the bit about cleavage. Could you not get another one?

GlaikitFizzog · 26/08/2012 17:13

Yes I'll get another one, im just quite attached to this one because it's so comfy, and ecleacage enhancing, when most of my other bras are of the "lift and separate" variety!!

Holy moly bran, I'd have to close my eyes buying those! I usually spend around £35 on a bra and thought that was expensive!! I've had this one since I stopped bfing a year ago, and it was a treat at £40, which is another reason I want to fix it!

Maybe I'll just strap them down and be done with it!

Where is it from, I need a cleavage bra?

GlaikitFizzog · 26/08/2012 17:20

I think it's Freya. From bravissimo. Might not be Freya, but is bravissimo. But as I said it was a year ago.

That's really pretty bran, i like it. How are the size wise? I'm a 36f, is it worth ordering one to see how it is fit wise? Although their measuring guide has that add 4/5inches method, which is Hmm in my book because I'd be a 40/42 if I went with that.

I just stitch over the hole the wire came through, over and over so it can't get through again.

thenightsky · 26/08/2012 19:29

I successfully got another six months out of a Fantasy bra by stitching over the hole the wire was sticking out of. The hole was right in the middle of my cleavage. I shoved the wire back down as far as I could get it to go, then stitched (double thread) to hold it there. Then I went over and over the actual hole and below, sealing the tube the wire was in, stop it creeping back up.

GobblersKnob · 26/08/2012 20:15

Do you machine wash your bras? This is usually what knackers the wires, particually if you are large of nork. They will have a longer life if hand washed.

GlaikitFizzog · 26/08/2012 22:48

I barely have enough time in the day to load the machine! Hand washing bras, life is too short!!

I'm off shopping tomorrow. Any excuse!

Grin it actually takes no time at all and is surprisingly theraputic.

It is more of a pain if you don't have many bras, I have twenty three at last count, so even changing them every other day I don't have to do them that often.

If you do do them in the machine make sure they are in a bag, a lose wire can wreck your washing machine and that is rather less enjoyable shopping.

whyme2 · 27/08/2012 08:15

Oh yes sil totally destroyed her washing machine with a bra wire so always bag them if you put them in the machine. I do tend to hand wash mine because I know it prolongs their life.

Rockchick1984 · 27/08/2012 10:30

I get all my bras from primark now Blush but they give excellent shape and support, and so cheap that I'm not bothered how long they last (paid £6 for matching underwired, lined, lacy matching set last week) Grin
