Plus size mother of the bride outfits

Mum has 6 weeks to find her outfit for my wedding. She is size 18-20 in most normal shops (dotty p, m&s etc) but the bespoke motb outfits in occasion shops come up VERY small.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Where are you? depending on how far you're prepared to travel you could try

Boundary Mill.

I've only been to the Walsall one but it has loads of choice for wedding/prom/posh do outfits in a wide range of sizes.

What's her shape and colouring? What sort of stuff (items but colours and patterens too) does she usually wear? Budget important too, of course.

We'll get her sorted!

JobCarHouseNoBaby · 25/08/2012 19:13

She wants to spend circa £2-300 and would love to wear a 'proper motb outfit' I.e with jacket and dress or jacket and skirt and blouse.

Colour wise not black or navy blue but otherwise any colour is ok.

She would prefer not to flash her legs although calf length skirt would be ok.

She is just majorly disappointed a size 20 in a designer brand actually equals a 16 in normal shops

I'd say she was an apple shape, big boobs, round tummy, wide hips. Floaty a line looks good

Try a Debenhams/John Lewis personal shopper.

What my mum and my MIL did and both were very happy.

(I've also used them for other occasions for myself and been very impressed!)

JobCarHouseNoBaby · 25/08/2012 19:40

The John Lewis personal shopper at Bluewater was fab when I went...

MrsLettuce · 25/08/2012 19:50

She want's very traditional, is that right? How about along the lines these with this? The cut of the suit would be very flatter ing on her I think.

MrsLettuce · 25/08/2012 19:52

Yes a personal shopper would be a Very Good Idea.

JobCarHouseNoBaby · 25/08/2012 20:07

MrsLettuce whilst your suggestion is lovely, her round middle just doesn't suit fitted dresses...

Same jacket, same hat and this? Not half as traditional but probably nicer.

this with this this?

A big hat is a good thing though. None of you're tiny tufty fascinators, they'll make her look much bigger than she actually is.

Considering how very short on time she is a personal shopper really would be excellent, otherwise you're going to run yourselves ragged / spend a fortune on postage / returns.

Jacques Vert is ok but she's not overly keen

She's slimmed from a 30 to a 18-20 but still feels self conscious so not sure personal shopping would work

Wow! that must have taken some dedication! Congratulations to her Smile

Yddraigdragon · 25/08/2012 21:09

Ann Harvey?

fivegomadindorset · 25/08/2012 21:11

I did a personal shopper in JL last year, size 20/22, thought I would hate it but she was great.

Shoshe · 25/08/2012 21:20

Try Kaleisdoscope

Im a 20 and just bought a lovely outfit for a wedding from there

MrsLettuce · 25/08/2012 21:24

jacket, skirt and blouse,

JobCarHouseNoBaby · 25/08/2012 21:33

MrsLettuce that is more her thing, I will show her tomorrow

She has done so well with her weight it's just frustrating she is not quite into the sizes for designer motb stuff she loves
