Estée Lauder foundation ...

I've never bought any Estée Lauder products but bought a mascara last weekend. Anyway, whilst waiting, there was a lady having her make-up done - her foundation looked fabulous, absolutely flawless. Don't know whether it was EL as the assistant was just finishing the lady's eyes and then she left. What are EL foundations like? A friend used to wear Double Wear and it always looked wrong on her - not necessarily caked but dry and orange! Interested in opinions.

Thanks

Double wear is raved about on here and it is fantastic but is pretty hard core, so not for the fresh and dewy look! Sounds like yr friend had the wrong shade for her.

I wear DW and I love it. It is pretty full coverage so during the day I just mix it with a bit of moisturiser. If it looked orange on your friend she was wearing the wrong colour.

I wear DW Light, fantastic & still has a dewy look (I wear the fairest colour). I also on the advice of EL lady bought DW (original one & slightly darker tone) to use sparingly as cover up for my burst veins on my cheeks. Seriously works a treat!!

I wear DW light. Am often told my skin looks great which must be the make up because I'm a right raddled old harridan without it.

DW is fantastic. Wouldn't be without it.

Gosh, really interesting - I'd always walked past the EL counter but I will definitely stop at it next time. Thanks!

I really want to love DW but it is really chalky and dry on my skin when I first put it on, and then by midday I have big shiny patches :( doesn't give me much coverage either.

I love double wear now, but I tried it when I was in my early 20s and it didn't suit me at all then - but for a craggy, haggard 33 year old it's top notch. It covers everything - it's amazing.

FoxPass I have very oily skin but DW never shines through for me - and the coverage is very full IMO. How are you applying it? I found that using a brush didn't work very well as it 'sets' quite quickly and doesn't blend or have much 'slip'. I use fingers to apply and blend (dotting over the whole face doesn't work either, I do a 'section' of face at a time). You can also layer it up to get the right amount of coverage. I do use powder over it too, I used to think it was too dry to be powdered but I think it makes a difference to how well the finish lasts if you just lightly dust over it.

Good idea Ohhelp - it simply mightn't suit my skin. I'm using a By Terry foundation just now but at £60 odd it's quite expensive and the last two times I have tried to replace like with like, the product has been discontinued and I end up with something different. Don't think my skin looks as good with the current foundation as with the original.

I really like Double Wear, but only when applied in a very specific way. It gives really good, natural looking coverage if I apply moisturiser 10 mins before (Avene Skin Recovery Cream), and then use the Real Techniques Stippling Brush to dab on the foundation and then blend in small circles. I then use a little bit of No7 Creme Touch translucent powder to set it. The lightest shade (1C1, Shell) is perfect for my pale but olive toned skin, which I was surprised about, and doesn't change colour over the course of the day. It does last a very long time without going shiny/separating, as long as I buff it again with my brush after 6 hours (and I have oily Mediterranean skin).

The Real Techniques stippling brush is really important for me - it's easy to get good coverage with very little foundation, and it doesn't look streaky or heavy because of the different length bristles. I tried it today with the Real Techniques expert face brush for a change, and it was much too heavy for me and used lots more foundation! I do recommend the stippling brush if you're interested in DW, it costs about £11 and makes a huge difference both to the look and to how fast you get through the foundation (I need half as much when using it, compared to a normal foundation brush).

Oh, and I forgot to say - my husband and my 19 year old brother both complimented me within hours of me putting on Double Wear for the first time, whereas they never mentioned my appearance when I used other foundations! That sealed the deal for me ;).
