Anyone got an IPL thingy?

I'm thinking about getting one but don't know anyone that's used one Blush so I call upon the hair-free of mumsnet to tell me if I should spend my hard-earned cash on an IPL machine, and if so, which one?

What's an IPL?

Lovemy3kids · 28/08/2012 15:54

What's an IPL?? What's and IPL machine???

NotMostPeople · 28/08/2012 15:56

Nope, I'd love to get one but apparently they don't work on red hair and that's me.

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 28/08/2012 15:58

Ahhh, just seen them on Amazon. They are ££££ aren't they?

googietheegg · 29/08/2012 17:58

The silk'n flash & go looks good from the reviews and it's about 50£ cheaper on eBay than amazon, but I'm confused about how often you buy cartridges and if it actually works! Would save a whole load of hair-removing hassle!!

It's a laser thing that removes hair permanently apparently...Blush

Hi, I bit the bullet and bought one a couple of months ago. I got a lumea which was reduced to £250 from £400- I think they've got an updated model now. I am a perfect candidate- pale skin dark hair so was quite excited to get started ( sheltered life!). I was so disappointed after the first use as it did not work even a tiny bit but a coupl of weeks later after the second go I started to notice less regrowth and by the third there was less hair growing than not growing. It takes seconds to do bikini and underarms but legs are a pain as the machine needs charging half way through and the 'active' part is small so takes time. My hair was thick and dark so even straight after shaving I had a shadow underarm- this is now not an issue. Also my skin is less dry and irritated because I'm not shaving. To sum up- it's not perfect but if you can afford I'd recommend it.

Bulby thank you! Do you have to buy any replacement cartridges with the lumea?

Hi again. No new cartridges needed and no gel either, which I know some require. I don't think it's a permanent solution ( not sure any of them are truely permanent as you have to keep using the machines after the hair is gone) but I think it's a bit like waxing that if you keep on top of it there's less and less- it's deffinately better than waxing after a few tries though. I'm happy- got it on amazon by the way. I'm sure that all the brands for home use are much of a muchness but I suppose the best thing is to look at all the recent reviews.I don't like recommending a specific one as it's the only one I've tried!

I've had the Lumea for over 2 years, it initially took maybe 2/3 months to get hairfree but once you are you don't have to use it as often.

I have barely used it for over a year due to pregnancy and breastfeeding and only have minimal regrowth. I'm shaving my legs, underarms and bikini line about once a week, the regrowth is much finer and sparser. I bought it due to always getting ingrown hairs and love it.

Thanks yodel I think I'm convinced now even though the charging bit sounds annoying and it is £££...Sad
