What will your 10 / 11 / 12 year old daughters be wearing this autumn/winter not in her school uniform?

Have got to take dd shopping for clothes in the next few weeks, and honestly, I'm dreading it.

Would be much obliged if you could share ideas (links and photos too would be great also) of what your daughters will be wearing this fall.

I need ideas for all of it:
weekend wear
shoes / boots
nicer outfits for special occasions
accessories (hats, jewelry, bags, etc).
Winter coats/jackets

This is such a tricky age. They definitely don't want to look like children, but also shouldn't be dressing like 18 year olds!

Help!

lurk for my DD

MadAboutHotChoc · 23/08/2012 19:32

My DD tends to wear the usual pre teen uniform which consists of:
Skinnies - both coloured and plain denim
T shirts & hoodies
Shorts, tunics or mini skirts with thick tights

She loves the look of the outfits in Johnnie B (Boden) so you may want to look in there for ideas.

AmyFarrahCooper · 23/08/2012 19:37

My daughter's style staple is kicker boots, and with those she wears leggings, short skirt or dress and a chunky cardigan or skinnies, baggy top and a hoodie. Shops: Gap, Boden, Sainsburys, la redoute.

My 2 dds - currently 10 and 13, but both Autumn birthdays, will mostly wear hoodies, tracksuit bottoms / 3/4 lengths / skinny jeans. 'Nice' or sometimes 'fun' T-shirts.
They wear pumps on their feet (the bright coloured, lace up ones mostly) and have trainers if going out somewhere muddy, and flat 'ballet pump' type shoes for going out smarter.

daisie4 · 23/08/2012 21:41

Hi Issy, I'm thinking of giving my daughter a clothing allowance - would you mind me asking how much you give your dd, and whether it has to cover all clothing or just weekend wear? Apologies if I'm being too intrusive.

MrsMeow · 23/08/2012 22:50

My DD (12 - just about to go into year 8) is wearing:

Coloured skinny jeans - Next have a nice selection that wash well.
Jack Wills/Hollister/Superdry hoodies & tshirts
Dark denim shorts with or without black tights.
Leggings - covered in crosses, peace signs, moustaches (?!) or just plain black.
Paul's Boutique (blurgh) or Jack Wills joggers.
Plain denim shirts - New Look or Primark have nice ones.
Sleeveless blouses, buttoned up to the neck - New Look or Primark.
Converse or plain pumps, ballet flats, hi tops or Toms on her feet.
Hair in a big scruffy bun on the top of her head Hmm

And all of her friends look exactly the same. So much for originality!

Hope this helps a bit. New Look 9-15 range is a good place to start. I find places like Next, Asda, Sainsburys etc where I'd have previously bought DD clothes from, don't seem to do the kind of things she likes any more. Shame really as they were cheap as chips! I have to admit though, DD will save up birthday/pocket money to buy clothes now so it's not too bad.

Out if school dd is generally wearing pineapple or other dance wear on days she had classes/rehearsals and skinny jeans and tops the rest of the time.

youonlysingwhenyourewinning · 23/08/2012 23:04

Dd is 12 and lives in Hollister or Jack Wills (joggers/t-shirts/hoodies)

Other than dance/sports wear she wears leggings and t-shirts, or denim shorts and vest tops.

For special occasions she has a couple of Hollister and River Island dresses and has a few crochet tops that she wears with smarter shorts.

Hollister, Jack Wills, River Island, Top Shop and New Look are her favourite shops.

Footwear choices include sandals, vans, converse and fake uggs

workshy · 23/08/2012 23:14

DD is mostly wearing...

chinos with 3/4 length sleve stripey tees and brogues on her feet
leggings with denim shorts/sleeveless blouses with peter pan collars & converse
leggings with dresses with small flower print & wide belt, waterfall cardi & converse
black skinnys and bubble tops & pixie boots with a v small heel

going out somewhere nice -lace dresses are a big hit (peter pan collar type thing)

lounging around the house -pyjama bottoms and a hoody
sleeping -shorts and a vest top???

lots of her friends are wearing coloured skinny jeans & padded gillets -she hates padded and much prefers layering

I won't give her an allowance as she is a total magpie where it comes to accessories (hats and scarves) and will do well on tops but won't think what she is going to wear on her bottom half!

my budget doesn't stretch to Hollister etc & fortunately she hasn't started asking for these things yet
Primark/Tammy girl/New look -all good places to look, plus she is tall and fits into adult clothes so G21 in Asda is worth a look

VivaLeBeaver · 23/08/2012 23:21

Dd is 11.

Wears skinnies, jeggings, leggings especially those Aztec type pattern leggings.

Various blouses, checked shirts, t-shirts.

Toms or converse on her feet.

She likes h&m, primark, new look.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 23/08/2012 23:22

Leggings
Skinny Jeans
Vest tops in various colours for layering
Hi tops
Hoodies in various colours
Denim waistcoat
Shorts and tights

Mine like named suff but they only get it for birthdays/xmas. Most of their stuff comes from New Look, H&M, Internacionale, Primark and Forever 21.

CointreauVersial · 23/08/2012 23:25

DD1 (11) wears skinnies/shorts and teeshirts, with a hoody or denim jacket if cold. High-tops or pumps on her feet.

Luckily she doesn't currently give a toss about brand names, but she's off to secondary school next month so that might change.

WhyTheBigPaws · 24/08/2012 07:32

My DD is 10 (going into Y6) but very petite so it's tricky finding stuff that fits but is not too young looking. She mainly wears skinny jeans (coloured or normal denim), denim shorts (with or without tights) or leggings with a t-shirt or vest and a hoodie and Converse, ballet pumps or flip flops. She's not too label obsessed luckily but she does love Pineapple stuff especially their strappy vests and crop tops. I get a lot of her clothes in Tesco (great for coloured jeans), Primark and Tammy with some nicer stuff from Gap, M&S, Zara and surfy type shops like Animal.

Thanks for ideas.

Sounds as if we each have challenges clothing our girls: mine is that dd is very tall for her age - almost as tall as me - which puts her into adult sized clothes. Since she is still growing, and doesn't take care of her clothes very well, I am not happy to pay adult prices. The cheaper stuff (especially tops and skirts) can fall apart quickly (and can look tired after being washed a few times) but doesn't make sense to spend for quality stuff because it maybe won't even last a season.

Shoes are an issue too - she wears same size as me. She is hard on her shoes, so am not happy to pay 'adult' prices.

It is a challenge.

DD1 is 13. She wears skinny jeans usually from Gap or Johnnie B. Usually with Hollister tee shirts and a jack Wills shirt. Johnnie B have a good range of Autumn shirts. She has a few tee shirts from H&M but quality is not that good. Jack Wills hoodies are all the rage at the moment.

GraduallyGoingInsane · 24/08/2012 18:33

I have 4 DDs (hence the nickname!). The younger 2 are 10 and 12.

Shoes tend to be Ugg boots, brightly coloured Vans pumps or flat ballet pumps. DD4 has ballet pumps with a strap for school, DD3 has just got a pair of the lace up/jazz shoe/brogue style ones.

For casual wear they live in skinny jeans (coloured or denim), denim shorts, wool shorts over tights, leggings (almost always black), short skater style full skirts. This is paired with vest tops and long boyfriend cardigans, cable knit jumpers, off the shoulder sweatshirts, printed t-shirts with pictures, hoodies (Jack Wills, Abercrombie and Superdry are favoured). DD3 has a body-con style short mini skirt she wears with tights and jumpers.

In terms of if we need to look a bit smarter or they're going to a party they favour the Johnnie B style dresses with the vest and skirt combined or t-shirt style dresses. DD3 has one prized dress from Jack Wills (like this one: jackwills.com/en-gb/product/oxenford-dress-014988266 but slightly different pattern) but fortunately sadly most of their stuff is too big still. Playsuits are favoured too, usually with tights underneath. DD4 has a really cute little navy blazer from Zara that smartens a lot of things up.

For winter coats they both have gilets (with the fur hoods!) and a warmer coat. DD4 has a padded number - Barbour style, but actually H&M! DD3 has a Jack Wills padded one, Barbour style too. DD3 has a Zara wool peacoat too which she's had for years but hasn't grown out of. That tends to come out on smarter occasions.

DD4 doesn't really do accessories. She has a knitted scarf, hat and gloves set for the depths of winter but isn't fussed. DD3 has some bits of jewellery - mainly coloured bangles and faux-pearl bracelets. She loves her big colourful pashmina scarves and her chunky cream knitted scarves. They both have the cross-body satchel type bags - a big one for school and a smaller one for weekends.

Shops wise we favour H&M, Zara, La Redoute, Johnnie B, Mini Boden, Abercrombie, Hollister, Jack Wills and actually M&S!
