Henna?

I'm growing my hair so want to steer clear of chemical dyes because they kill my hair badly and restrict it to shoulder length. I'm fed up of my murky brown though.

Does anyone use henna? I'm just going to write a list of questions Grin

How much would I need for quite thick shoulder length hair? Lush seem to sell it in grams so I am at a loss.

If I dye it with henna and then decide in a few months I want to use chemical dye will my hair go green?

On the very ends of my hair I have the remains of a slightly lighter dye I used ages ago...will these bits go funny with the henna? Or just lighter?

How does it fade? Are roots really obvious?

my sister uses the lush stuff on her (long) hair and loves it. keep meaning to try it but it does sound a faff. plus once you've used henna you can't, apparently, use the normal stuff till it grows out (not sure I totally believe this).

wld be interested to hear too from anyone who has used it. what does it do to the odd grey hair?

I've always wanted to try henna, but haven't beacause of the faffing, cooking it etc. Why don't salons offer it? Would love to hear from any hairdressers here.

Me too. I think most hairdressers are v against it as it can be unpredictable. But I don't like all the chemicals in hair dye...

There is a creme henna that is easy to apply and gets good results, this

I like Lush 'Marron' - rich chestnutty brown. Gives fab shine and makes my hair feel thicker too. The greys just sort of blend in, although I don't really have that many (about 5 - 7%, maybe).

I don't do it very often though, because, as others have said, it's such a lot of faffing around - but I was in Lush the other day and they say they can do it for me!

Apparently they will apply the henna, wrap you in a headscarf and then you either wander around the shops for a couple of hours and go back to have it rinsed off or just rinse it yourself at home. They said most of their stores will do this if you just give them a call to arrange it.

I've got Lush brown one on at the mo. It is a bit of a faff, but there's no actual cooking involved. You soak the dessicated cowpat type substance in water and stab at it with a fork til it turns into sludge then just bung on head. I leave it on about 2 or 3 hours then shower out. I'm better at it having done it 3 times now and bathroom not such a pigsty when I've finished as first try.
I have chin length bob and use a third of the slab from Lush at a time.
