Decided to go grey - what to wear????

Having coloured my hair for the last 15 years, I've decided (as the natural colour is now 95% grey) to go completely grey. My face looks reasonably young, shape reasonably ok and I reckon if hair is well cut and conditioned it should look alright.
BUT.
My DS is only 5 and I do not want to be mistaken for his granny. Where should I look for clothes? Keen to avoid Boden, Hobbs etc as a lot of women in their 60s shop there.... But where should I start looking?
I'm sort of borderline pear-shaped/hour-glass shaped, 5'6", size 12-14 (depending where I shop), and tend to prefer strong, plain coloured clothes (lots of black and green in wardrobe at the moment).
Walk a lot so can't wear bonkers shoes....
Please wise ladies direct me before I make a fatal shopping error!!!

See, I was looking at Cos and Uniqlo websites - but clothes look like they're made for straight up-and-down types, is that right?

Purple Grin

Navy probably good.

How old are you?

Rooble · 23/08/2012 07:46

In my head about 30 though!

Navy and purple are both colours I like - I think the thing I'm more worried about is the style of my clothes making me look like I'm 150 or something if that makes sense

I buy a lot of clothes from Uniqlo and I am pear shaped. I find their jeans are perfect for me.

I don't get Uniqlo's trousers but their tops are nice

I think it's more about the way you present yourself than what you wear tbh

dexter73 · 23/08/2012 07:53

I have these in green and they are very nice.

I am 42 and have had grey hair for about 4 years now. I love the fact that I don't have to worry about hair dye and roots anymore.
I tend to have a short hair style which I keep groomed. I wear casual classic clothes but try to have a fashionable accessories such as a scarf, the boots of the season or a striking necklace.

After a few weeks of being shocked each time I looked in the mirror, I don't really see the grey now. Just me.

I stopped dying in my thirties & turned completely white platinum blonde.

Stay away from beige, browns & be careful of yellows which depend on your skin tone and to whether they look fine of make you look I'll.
I found I could suddenly wear clothes that previously looked awful on me like fuchsias, plums. Navy looks great & most greys, purples & black too.

As to styles, think you need to inject a bit of sexiness to avoid looking frumpy. Fitted instead of loose, bit of cleavage, no frumpy lengths. Mixing up textures works well.
Think Zara instead of PerUna.

Hi, have you thought about having your colours done? Grey/silver is a strong hair colour and will either work a treat with you complexion, or make you look 105 yo! Get professional advice on which colours will make you look fresh and youthful, and the rest should follow from there. Smile

Ooh thank you everyone! I'm v excited about no longer getting roots done (and the £££££££££££ this will save). Just been carried away by that French thread and realised that's probably what I'm aiming at - kind of smart classic and lots of navy (?). Whatever. Need to hold off having colours done Lairy, as I'm currently "in transition" (reckon the brown should be grown out by next summer, unless I go short to speed the process up).
It's kind of exciting though changing completely like this!
