I have a freckly skin and have lived in Southern Spain for over 10 years. I've always used Oil of Olay with SPF15 but noticingmore and more crows feet (I'm 37) recently so thought I'd up the ante. I bought Clinque sheer city block SPF40 the other day but it looks (and feels) like foundation. I've mixed it with a little Oil of Olay to water it down a bit and only have pressed powder over the top but I feel like I want to wash my face. Bleurgh. Is this normal? It is very hot here and I haven't ven used pressed powder for ages, so maybe it's that but when I apply the clinque I look a bit shiny (much more so than with just Oil of Olay) so feel I need the powder. I was a bit surprised to see the colour of the clinque, as the Olay is white and the Clinique is beige, like foundation.

I use boots P and P with 15 spf, and the serum too

At last! Thanks, but I'm looking for a higher sun factor than 15. I was quite happy with Olay SPF15 but all these years in such strong sunlight, I wanted something higher and not been thrilled with the farking expensive clinique.

I've been using Ultrasun spf 30 as recommended on here, pretty good, not thick/shiny.

Have I misunderstood and the Clinique is actually foundation, not moisturiser, is that why it feels so heavy?

The clinique is intended to be a tinted moisturiser I think, but like you I find it too like foundation.

I use Paula's Choice moisturiser with 30, it is great.

If you are in a hot climate I think you have to think about actual sun block as well as a moisturiser, and also about reapplying through the day. This is a Pain if you wear makeup, but would you not reapply body sun protection if you were in strong sun, sweating etc? Expecting a thin application of factor 15 to protect you all day is asking a bit much imo.

There is a powder spf that comes in a tube with a built in brush, can't remember t the name (Paul something?), which is the only solution I ever found to the problem of topping up protection through the day with makeup on.

Not tried it myself yet but MAC do a 50 SPF primer which is well reviewed on here.
