Within reasonable budget, so basically under a tenner!!!
My hair is just past my shoulders, probably over-dyed, in not too great condition, so a bit dry & split. I do blow dry it with a big round natural bristle brush, but only straighten it about once a week. Looks frizzy although it's fairly straight.

I usually spray it with VO5 heat defence spray before blow drying it. Then work some VO5 serum through the lengths and ends. I accept it'll never look magazine glossy, but it just looks awful. Even straightened it looks crap. I get it trimmed about every 3 months or so, really trying to grow it long again. Ive tried lee Stafford Argan oil, which can make my hair feel dry and knotty the next day so not a great fan of that & didn't notice a great difference either. Anything else I can try?

Very similar hair to yours so I will lurk for answers Grin
I find the Aussie protection spray and tigi blow dry balm used together seems to be working quite well for me. Tigi under a tenner on eBay.

Kaloobear · 19/08/2012 15:27

Kerastase Elixir Ultime oil is fabulous, though a lot more than a tenner. Loreal have a version called Mythic Oil which I haven't tried yet but imagine is very similar as they're the same company. You can use Elixir as a pre wash mask, a deep conditioner or a serum before or after blow drying and it doesn't weigh hair down at all, but makes it silky and glossy. I love it! A bottle also lasts for months and months.

AUSSIE!

Shampoo, conditioner, and heat protector! Also intensive conditioner. For LONG hair is your best friend (well mine) and I used to sit on my hair!

mummyinspain · 19/08/2012 15:30

Just back from summer hols and this is the first time I have not returned with hair like straw, thanks to products recommended on here first it is what it says VO5 miracle concentrate you just squirt it on dry hair and it really nourishes without being greasy and second product is coconut oil which you put in but need to leave in for a few hours then wash out but it really helps the condition of your hair since mine is wavy/frizzy these recomendations have been great for me so I thought would pass it on

GlaikitFizzog · 19/08/2012 15:35

Aussie here too! Shampoo conditioner and the 3 minute miracle. I've used the styling products too, and they were good, but I don't use any now. Just hairspray.

You'll probably hate me for saying this but my hair is so much better now I don't straighten it anymore. I am embracing my natural wave and leave it to dry on its own quite a bit. Even my hairdresser has commented on how healthy it's looking now.

colditz · 19/08/2012 15:47

Stop blow drying it and stop straightening it. It looks frizzy because it is heat damaged!

MrsRogerSterling · 19/08/2012 15:51

Hair oil, have used Kerastase, Loreal Mythic and loved both. Have just bought the Elvive one in Tesco today to try , it was £9.99 so in budget!

MrsRogerSterling · 19/08/2012 15:55

Also no point growing your hair if it is split and dry, get a good cut to remove all the damaged ends and then keep it conditioned. Much better to have slightly shorter hair in good condition than long dry hair.

anniewoo · 19/08/2012 18:40

Did anyone else find Frizz Ease useless?

RnB · 19/08/2012 18:41

L'oreal Eversleek conditioner - the brown one £6

molepom · 19/08/2012 18:44

Water - you are pretty much fucked without it.

Seriously though it has to be an Olive oil treatment/mask thing I like to use every now and again.

MrsJohnDeere · 19/08/2012 18:48

Yes, Frizz Ease does nothing at all for my curly/frizzy hair.

Moroccan oil is my must have.

Conflugenglugen · 19/08/2012 18:49

Hair Elasticizer by Philip Kingsley. Expensive, and bloody worth it.

cupcake78 · 19/08/2012 18:50

Aussie here as well. Moroccan oil really is very good and if your wanting your hair to grow longer and be in good condition it's worth the investment

GrizzlyFrontBum · 19/08/2012 20:38

Aussie 3 min miracle stuff here too. And I think it smells divine.

I also rinse my hair with as cold as I can stand water.

madmomma · 19/08/2012 20:40

Another vote for aussie products here. I've tried loads of expensive brands and always prefer my hair when I use aussie

GlaikitFizzog · 19/08/2012 21:06

Yay for Aussie! Since I have so many fans I the one place can anyone tell me when the mega shampoo went from creamy looking to clear?? I think I might be going made, but I'm sure it's changed!!

boodles · 19/08/2012 21:09

Liz Earle conditioners.

valiumredhead · 19/08/2012 21:13

TIGI blow out balm - tenner rot 2 on ebay.

MarshaBrady · 19/08/2012 21:19

Aveda pure abundance products.

I can't do oil based stuff.

madmomma · 19/08/2012 21:21

ooh yes the pure abundance range is amazing. Aveda hair products are fabulous generally.

mummyinspain · 19/08/2012 21:44

Glaik Can't help I'm afraid as I use Long / colour.

But the long changed about 2 years ago, still as good as ever.

MadStaringEyes · 19/08/2012 21:52

A daft question, butdo you use Moroccan oil like a serum? Should i shampoo, condition and then oil? If so which shampoo and conditioner do you recommend?

Or is it like a conditioner?
