Can you tell me about Hobbs?

I live under a rock in a rural area and I work at home, and I'm not really into shopping, all of this means that I jut don't go to the shops very often. I tend to stick to the same rather frumpy uniform of clothes and just order online.
However I'm trying to get a couple of nice work outfits as I'm going to be out and about a bit more and going to meetings in the near future. It's been 10 years since I've worked in an office so I'm very out of touch with professional wear.

I've been looking at Hobbs. How is the quality, the fit and the cut? I'm over 45, I'm 5'3", and curvy. I'm curvy when I'm very slim but at the moment I'm not at all slim Blush so I'm very curvy but I do still have a waist. Do I sound as if Hobbs may suit my shape or should I look elsewhere? I'll be ordering online, the clothes are a bit pricier than I'm used to, so I do want to get it right.

I'm in my 40s and 5'4" and curvy with a small waist. I have a few Hobbs dresses for work and I find them a very good fit for my shape. They are a bit pricey but good quality.

Hobbs are generous in their sizing I think. But I am too tall for their stuff. Worth a try for you I think.

HoleyGhost · 19/08/2012 12:19

Good for shape but generally dry clean only

SpringGoddess · 19/08/2012 12:26

Have bought a few things from Hobbs and I'm curvy....quality has been mostly fine except for a t shirt that shrank.

Marenostrum · 19/08/2012 13:10

I like Hobbs for work because their clothes are quite structured, in good quality material, and therefore look good if you are curvy. Their sizing is on the generous side. They also often offer different combos for suits (jacket + shift dress + skirt+ trousers) so you can mix and match (and they do a lot of short fitted jackets which sounds good for your shape). They are expensive but they often have sales.

Their outlet section is brilliant. Jackets are cut well for curves and hourglasses. Quality excellent. Most of it is dry clean only, which is a pain. T-shirts are generally good but you may need to size up if you are large of nork.

I thought the work dresses seemed a bit long and not to fit right on me (I am slightly shorter and similar shape to you). I did a lot better in Mango. I haven't tried their other stuff yet though. And yes - lots of dry clean only :(

I am an hourglass and don't find Hobbs great for my shape. Are you near John Lewis if so you can usually get free delivery and then bring anything back that didn't suir.

Loveleopardprint · 19/08/2012 15:23

If you can decide on your size in Hobbs you can then get things on eBay. As the styles are quite classic and the quality is good the clothes are worth getting on eBay. I have bought lots and have been pleased.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/08/2012 17:26

Yes - the dresses are over long and frumpy, for me anyway.

I find both dresses and jackets to be a good shape. They seem to accentuate the waist, so should suit you. The quality is very good. I have had 2 Hobbs jackets for years and wear them frequently.

I prefer Phase Eight as they really reduce in the sales and Hobbs seem to have more and more polyester then charge 100 squid for it.
