Hoc - Autumn

Does anyone else not like the colours they have been classified with? I was so excited to have my colours done and am pretty disappointed that I am autumn. I am not a big fan of the colours!

Anyone else find this and if so did you revert back to colours you like or embrace your season?!

I am waiting for a date to have mine done and my biggest fear is that the Dx will be Autumn Grin ...suspect I might be Sad

Hopefully · 18/08/2012 22:47

I'm an autumn and honestly, once you get into it, it's wonderful! It's so easy to get sidetracked by the beige/camel/khaki that you forget the peacock/petrol/forest green/bronze/brick/geranium. Life is v easy in terms of accessorising because basically all natural leather shades are good.

Give it a shot for a few weeks, buy a couple of scarves in your best colours and brave a lipstick, and I promise you'll convert Grin

Hopefully · 18/08/2012 22:50

Also v good time to be diagnosed as an autumn - you usually find more autumn clothes during the real season.

ApuskiMcClusky · 18/08/2012 22:52

Agree with Hopefully - there is no obligation to drape yourself in mustard! And now is the perfect time to be 'diagnosed' - there seem to be more 'right' colours around when it is your season in the calendar year, so stock up now!

ApuskiMcClusky · 18/08/2012 22:52

Ha cross post Hopefully!

cardoon · 19/08/2012 07:56

I've got quite a tan (natural) at the moment, should I wait until it's faded or will it make no difference?

What kind of Autumn are you Coco

Hopefully · 19/08/2012 08:06

cardoon tan makes no difference Smile

Hopefully · 19/08/2012 08:06

As long as it's natural, as you say.

cardoon · 19/08/2012 08:55

I'm the type that has to buy 3 different colours of everything I like.......hoping to save lot's of money...

duende · 19/08/2012 09:25

I was classed as deep autumn by HoC and was initially disappointed. But now i Love my colours - deep greens, chocolate and coffee browns, dark navy, bronze, olive greeen, peacock, lovely!
All brown and tan leather is fine. I have stopped buying black clothes and black accessories.
Sopping in the summer was a bit challenging but now AW collections are out. Cn see loads if lovely burgundy and green clothes.

BonnieBumble · 19/08/2012 09:29

I'm the opposite, I really want to be an Autumn. I can't afford the consultation at the moment but have decided that I'm going to pretend I'm an Autumn as they are the colours I'm most comfortable in.

twooter · 19/08/2012 09:38

I was the same. I remember looking at the lipstick shades and saying, " we'll if Im autumn, I won't be wearing lipstick again".

Initially I went out and bought a heap of brown stuff, which I've always known has suited me. A month or two later I just felt a bit drab, and now I tend to wear a lot of peacock, bottle green, red - anything really to give a bit more colour. I've found it really easy to find clothes the right colour.

I recently looked through photos of me when I was a very untrendy teenager, and it's uncanny how many of them show me wearing autumn colours, whereas when I became more of a fashion victim, my colours were all over the place.

cardoon · 19/08/2012 13:03

I'm a bit all over the place too and looking forward to being more pared down.

I do hate to look too drab as I get older so hope I'm not an autumn knowing what my best, brightest colours are will be a big help. I suppose it's the low contrast thing that gives the drab look.......Sad

Cocochops · 19/08/2012 21:10

Thanks for all the responses. I have been classified as deep autumn my best colours are olives and browns. I am not sure of the differences between the types.

What do fellow autumns do wrt to black? I currently wear black mascara and eye liner so may try brown for that. I have a lot of black skirts shoes and trousers for work. Do you tend to replace these with another colour or still have some black as they are not near the face?

OP posts:
twooter · 20/08/2012 21:32

I replaced all mine with brown, mostly chocolate, but also some tan boots. I couldn't bring myself to wear black now. Once you've got clothes in the right colour, then you'll find that the right accessories just finish off the look.

DonaAna · 20/08/2012 21:36

Hated being a summer for the first few months - dislike faded pastels and prefer saturated color. Then started wearing the brightest colors on my palette - red, coral, green and blue teamed with neutrals (smoky blue gray, camel, white).

It sounds as if most of my clothes and make-up are Autumn. Over the years I've noticed what suits me (and what doesn't) and have ended up with exactly the colours and shades mentioned above. I do also buy black but am trying not to as it doesn't really do me any favours.

I have hazel eyes, light brown hair and pale skin prone to freckling rather than tanning. Does that sound like a probable Autumn person or is it impossible to say without a consultation?

nada29 · 22/08/2012 11:02

Can I ask how much you've paid for consultation.
I'd like to have one but not sure if I can afford it.

Minimammoth · 22/08/2012 18:51

I am an Autumn. I never ever wear black, I wear dark navy or brown. Use dark brown mascara, you can hardly see the difference, and have recently bought a Dr. haushka muted purple. I know the colours just work and it takes a lot of time out of shopping. A little frustrating when the colours are nt 'in'.

Cocochops · 22/08/2012 19:50

Thanks for all the info.

Ok - brown make up I am fine with, I will try this weekend.

Brown Boots no problem I have lots of pairs already!

I am struggling to know about work attire though. I normally wear black stiletto pumps and in the winter black opaques are a staple! Do you wear navy for these? - does it look ok? All I can think of is school uniform! Also I don't seem to notice dark smart shoes other than black in the shops

Oh and just out of interest what colour is your winter coat? I am currently lusting after a bright cobalt one - damn I wish I was a winter!

Oh and nada its £99 with Hoc. I went with my mum and she thought it was great and well worth it and to be honest I think its really good too it's just taking me some time to come to terms with my diagnosis Grin

Minimammoth · 22/08/2012 19:58

I guess I think of the black opaques/shoes thing as another uniform really. I love coloured shoes., so have burgundy, brown, red, teal etc with brown or burgundy tights. But I don't work in an office enviroment. I have been using the autumn palette for over 15 years.

twooter · 23/08/2012 11:07

Brown winter coat, not in an office, but wear brown opaque tights with skirts in winter. Would wear natural tights if needed thin ones.

I have a pair of brown high courts, nude mid-heel courts and tab suede ankle boots which I wear for work. Opaques I generally go for brown with brown/tan boots, as I find it hard to find a warm enough navy.

Have never bought of it as uniform as my school uniform was burgundy and then black, so I think black is much more waitress:school-esque than colours.

Previous winter coats have been peacock and navy, but am on the lookout for a new one, maybe red.
