Why the f**k aren't I losing more weight on my diet?

saveoursleepplease · 17/08/2012 19:14

I only wanted to lose 1/2 stone(ish). Five weeks I started (on advice of my trainer) this diet:

10 portions fruit / veg
3 portions lean protein
3 portions essential oils (e.g. half avocado, seeds/nuts/olive oil)
He gave weights and sizes e.g. a handful of cherries is a portion, a slice of melon, a medium sized orange etc etc
2 litres of water

Week 1, I lost 3.8lb. Week 2 - put on 1lb!! Week 3 - lost 1lb. Week 4/5 - combined as week 5 I had flu and didn't go to exercise - nada. Stayed the same

I do Power Plates with him twice a week (vigorous with kettle bells). I then go to the gym and run 2 x a week for 35 minutes.

I thought I was doing enough and I still am not losing more! I'm 43 and perimenopausal so maybe that doesn't help - and to be honest, I do sometimes nibble at say DC breadstick or have a piece of dry pasta, a few bits from the muesli - but nothing much! Or is even that going to scupper my chances?

So - my questions a) what do I need to do to pull off those last few llbs? I've got weigh in on Monday and I've love to trump myself

It's fucking me off - it's totally boring and I'm still not losing.

Thanks!

xx

Erm..yes you do danteV, the next day...it makes no odds when you consume it.

saveoursleepplease · 17/08/2012 20:06

Badger - kettle bells are not a waste of time at all. That's nonsense. With the right exercises you can burn off more calories than running or rowing

danteV · 17/08/2012 20:07

Kettle bells do not cause injury. misuse of them may.
They are fantastic, much better than 30 mins on a cross trainer.
A body with more muscle burns has (generally) a higher fat burning potential on a daily basis.

saveoursleepplease · 17/08/2012 20:08

Imperial - I prob eat more fruit than veg

That's stopped now I am seeing it

You believe that rubbish if you like...I go to the gym twice a day and have for years...they are a total waste of time and cause back problems. They are promoted by PT's who want to convince people they can lose weight without training..the PT at my gym does it (and jokes to me about the idiots who believe him)...lol

badgeroncaffeine · 17/08/2012 20:09

No danteV, never ever will kettlebells be of more use than 30 mins FLAT OUT on a cross trainer. People think they are "better" actually mean "easier".

danteV · 17/08/2012 20:10

I am sorry but I disagree badger, when you have been asleep for 8 hours the carbs have already stored. They are not used for energy the next day, which is why you need breakfast.

food does not wait for the next day to be used.

saveoursleepplease · 17/08/2012 20:10

Wow badger, you're pleasant!

I tried everything to lose my baby weight . My body just wouldn't let it go despite exercising like a banshee . The only thing that worked for me is dukan . It's shite but it worked . I totally get the fucked off bit by the way Wink

laracroft2001 · 17/08/2012 20:11

I am not incorrect.

There is in fact whole Belief that eating all your carbs in the evening burns more fat.

Look at Lemmington fitness and also muscleandstrength.com for just two examples of studies.

There is people who argue both ways, but in a nutshell- if in 24hours you burn more than you consume you will lose weight.

badgeroncaffeine · 17/08/2012 20:11

There are only 4 things people losing weight should be touching at the gym...the bike, rower, XT and treadmill.

sweetkitty · 17/08/2012 20:12

I agree a nutritionist told me calories cannot tell the time. Grin

saveoursleepplease · 17/08/2012 20:13

Bisch - I'm reading the Dukan in between posting! My friend did it and lost 3 stone - then put most it back on once she started eating normally

saveour...I am indeed pleasant. But unlike the PT at your local gym, I tell it as it is. I have no financial motivation for lying to you about kettlebells and dumbells losing weight...

laracroft2001 · 17/08/2012 20:14

Your nutritionist is very correct sweetkitty Grin

badgeroncaffeine · 17/08/2012 20:15

sweetkitty....I love this thread, so many people misinformed by people making lots of cash out of them!

danteV · 17/08/2012 20:15

Badger the last comment was in regards to carbs.
If you think kettle bells are rubbish, then your pt is doing it wrong. done correctly its not easy its Damn hard and really works the body.
your pt is ripping people off.
You may not like kettle bells, but my results show for themseleves.
If you list 4 stone in 2 months, that's approx 10lb a week, that imo is dangerous.
At the end of the day I am only giving advice on what works for me. You don't like it, don't do it. I am not saying your way is wrong.

danteV · 17/08/2012 20:17

A nutritionist is a title that means nothing. No calories can't tell the time.
Car a know when your asleep and they aren't needed so stores them or rather your body does.

saveoursleepplease · 17/08/2012 20:19

You know what Bager, if this was RL
Id really tear a strip off you for speaking to me, amongst others, like I'm
an idiot
I've been exercising for a long long time and no one takes money off me

Incidentally, if you have time to go the gym twice a day you might want to consider getting a bit of a life

danteV...I don't have a PT, my level in fitness and sport is above most PTs. I can't be bothered with a full demolition of your comments..I'm off to the gym now Grin
Kettlebells are a fad..end of story...aimed at people who think they will lose weight because they can't be bothered doing any CV. CV is TREADMILL, XT, ROWER and BIKE. And no, 4 stone is 2 months isn't dangerous...I did it 6 years ago and it's still off.

danteV · 17/08/2012 20:20

The thing is Lara I disagree. As I said this works for ME. the lose of inches and weigh, as well as reduced bloating, improved skin, energy levels. Show that it works for ME.
I don't get why that's such an issue. Yes there are different theories, but this works for me. As does kettle bells, sparring, kick boxing etc.

laracroft2001 · 17/08/2012 20:23

It might work for you and that is great- but won't work for everyone. I'm pointing out that there are other ways. There are a lot of myths surrounding diets which are simply designed to sell books etc.

And also a lot of people find the 'cutting carbs after 6' works for them as they stop snacking on crisps/toast etc.

Like I said, in a nutshell- if you consume less calories than you burn- you will lose weight. It's simple maths.

danteV · 17/08/2012 20:23

Badger off your trot.
I can pretty much promise you are not fitter than my pt.
Unsaid imo losing 10lb per week is dangerous, read that imo.
Clearly you like to think you are correct. But don't like others disagreeing.
I was a long distance runner, can do the gnr in pro athlete time.
I and the OP (if you bothered to read) do plenty of cardio. And as I said before, if the kettle bell class is run by someone with business ethics and a decent knowledge the are not easy classes and do work.
I have the results. As you do from spending 30 minutes on a x trainer.

danteV · 17/08/2012 20:26

But Lara at no point did I say it would suit everyone. The up said she was low carb, but imo eats a lot of fruit and beg for low carb. She asked what plan I had.
I disagree with the calories of 24 hours. As ita been said before they can't tell the time. They can tell tell if they are going to used.
Everyone is different. I am giving advice based on me and not insisting the OP must do the same.
Trying to help.
