Altenative to blazers

I know they are a classic but if one has a short torso, wide shoulders & a short neck they look awful, like Americal footballer chic.

I basically want/need a jacket that is smarter than a hoodie (not difficult) but comfortable and versatile like a blazer. I love those blazers that are made of almost sweatshirt material stuff (h&m and primark do some great ones) but they look like hell on me like all tops with collars and shoulder pads. I dot do shirts either...

My budget is £30, absolutely tops. I am trying to lose weight so this is a temporary jacket.

What are my options? Basically I want a body transplant & the moon on a stick but failing that, a jacket will have to do.

this waterfall one might work? or a kimono style or this batwing style would def minimise shoulders but is a teeny bit over budget.

openerofjars · 17/08/2012 15:05

Mm, not really what I'm after. Needs no shoulders/collar and while the kimono one fits that description, it's really a scarf with sleeves so will be useful for the beach but not so good in early autumn. Thanks for looking, though.

It's cardigan time again, isn't it?

It's lovely but, and I don't want to seem unhelpful or ungrateful here, it's only in small or medium. But I wlll pop into Zara to see whether they have it in a large because it definitely looks like ac possible. Thanks!

Oh. None of their stuff goes beyond medium on the website. Sad

What about this H&M one? In black? I think it's not exactly what you're after, but any good?

LittlePandaBear · 17/08/2012 20:26

I have one of these - it's quite thing so more of an alternative to a cardi than a jacket, but smartens me up a bit for work. They have it in a few colours.

LittlePandaBear · 17/08/2012 20:28

thin not thing!

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 17/08/2012 20:35

I have wide shoulders and lapels/collars make me look a bit er...butch Grin. A collarless jacket that nips in at the waist gives me shape though and I do think H&M jackets are brilliant VFM. This sort of thing

openerofjars · 17/08/2012 20:53

It's not the lapels so much as the shoulder pads, and the H&M ones, while v nice, look quite square across the shoulders.

New Look may be an option, though.

Food for thought. Hmm.

It's just occurred to me that there's a reason that you only ever see thin people in blazers.

Saw this in River Island a few days ago and nearly bought it! I have tiny shoulders so look for the opposite, this made mine look smaller so should hopefully suit you. It's a cardi knit, soft and drapy. And it's only £30
jacket

openerofjars · 18/08/2012 10:49

Ooh, I saw that one on the website! Ace, will have a look. Thanks!

I have large boobs and wide shoulders and normally look horrendous in blazers. However, I bought a navy jersey one from Zara this year and it is very flattering - quite long length, no shoulder pads, unstructured and with narrow lapels. I'm sticking to this shape now and will probably buy another one in a different colour - I got the navy and have worn it loads.
