Hello
I've been boiling hot in my jeans and tops for the last few days. I don't have any maxi skirts but think they'd be a good way to stop me over heating. I have seen various threads where layering tops is recommended. I am ok with the vest top bit but what sort of tops would I layer over them?

I'm too full of belly to just wear a vest top so need some coverage but anything that's loose makes me look like I'm 8 months pregnant. My youngest will be three soon, so I need to sort that out too but in the mean time I need to sort this out as I'm sweltering and also feel embarrassed when I go out in my dark denim jeans and my 'mumsy' next tops.

I don't like my legs as they're really chunky, veiny and not at all toned, hence the maxi skirt,

Also, what sort of maxi's would be good for an hourglass-peary shape. I think elasticated waists might not be the best for me. Confused What else could I go for? I've tried some jersey dresses on but they just cling to all the wrong bits and i look like a sack of potatoes.

I'm in between a size 14 and 16 and 5' 6".

Can anyone help with ideas to help me feel more comfortable. Ideally I'm looking for ideas from shops that can deliver next day as I'm off on my hols on friday. I know i've left it lat but I have looked and just feel down about the fact that I'll be in these bloody jeans at the beach.

Many thanks in advance

Hi, my mil is the same shape and size as you and hates her ankles due to veins etc.

During the summer she wears linen trousers and a relatively fitted top which is fitted around the bust but baggier around her waist. She also wears maxi dresses that she adds a belt too and jazzes them up with a jacket at night. I can't do any links sorry

Thanks for your reply Imlost.

I find linen trousers make me look much bigger than I am. I like wearing trousers but I think skirts/dresses might be better for me, as I can't really find trousers that fit well.

Also I see so many lovely summery dresses and skirts that I kind of wish I could look like that too.

Thanks for the tip though. :)

Re layering - if your arms and shoulders are good, wear a tight vest under a really loose racerback vest in a different colour - looks modern and fresh and I think flattering, especially if you add a long necklace. Cheapo shops are fab for this - New Look have racerback vests for about £4 at the mo and Peacocks often do them too. Wear with shorts and big sunnies Smile

Re next day delivery - have a look at the Next website - they do other brands as well as Next and will deliver next day as standard.

I got a fab maxidress in the Gap sale for £11, it's just a long grey t-shirt, fab for chucking on with a belt / jewellery / scarf.

Oops not shorts, just saw you don't like your legs. Yy maxi skirt or you could try jersey harems like Hush ones? I think maxi dresses might be the way forward though and lots in sales. No to linen!

Thanks HoopDePoop. Great name by the way.

That's exactly what I was after, in trems of where to shop. I'll try and get to New Look tomorrow, so thanks for the pointer.

I'm 43 and really feel so completely lost as to what I should wear. I'd love to be confident but I'm just not so I find the advice on here invaluable, so thanks again.

Hope you're having a good evening. :)
