Hair and ageing

I've always had very fine hair but quite a lot of it. Over the last year or so, since I've turned forty, my hair has got really horrible. It's frizzy in places, thin at the ends and looks kind of like it keeps breaking off because there are so many short parts on the top of my head compared with longer. Is there anything I can take to try to get some fullness back or recommendations for a different haircut?

I have very dry fine hair with tendency to frizz. I have finally got bouncy, shiny and ridiculously healthy looking hair by doing the following:

  1. Letting my hair dry naturally. First week was awful - it was worse than ever on the frizz factor but suddenly began to dry in soft waves (usually only achieved by blow drying and hair wand usage).
  1. Using Kerastase Fibre Architecte shampoo & conditioner plus a weekly hair masque. I used to wash my hair daily but I can now go 3 days without grease or lank locks. And it retains the gorgeous aroma :)
  1. Kerastase Elixir Ultime hair oil. I use it as a pre-shampoo treatment and daily treatment on the mid-lengths and ends.

The Kerastase is expensive but lasts ages. Alternatively, I have also found L'Oreal Full Restore 5 to be good too.

I have hair exactly as you describe, dinglydell, and it is definitely not getting any better as I get older. Somehow it gets more and more weightless. I can't possible let it air dry, as it just dries into a frizzzy, wispy, styleless mess of witch hair.

Recently I've been using Pantene protect and volume conditioner for coloured hair. It seems to tame it better than other conditioners I've tried recently.

Hair drying naturally here too! Seems to make a big difference. And serum for shine and movement.

Oops, pressed too soon. My hair is fine but I've got loads of it. Poker straight and I have it thinned out regularly or it'd look like a wig....standing off my head.

I haven't used a hair dryer in a long long time.

Mine was like that last year, but I was anaemic, apparently that can cause it.

Another vote for Kerastase here - a green one for ageing hair.
I also never use a hairdryer.

So can hypothyroidism, I think.

Worth seeing your GP.
