Short hair for the summer?

I could do with a haircut. Should I keep it long (and mostly tied back) or go for a short haircut? I've been told I've got a longish face and it wouldn't suit short but would value your opinions.

My hair has quite long waves & kinks, esp in the grown-out fringe. I'll tend to leave it to dry naturally if the weather suits and or roughly dry it if it's cold & wet out.

I don't get to go to the hairdressers very often and have a habit of leaving it to grow out, but could be a bit more organised & go more often if it worked out really well.

What do you think (pic on my profile of it dried without drying/styling)?

Do you swim?

My hairdresser is always told mine must go back into a pony tail, however stupid looking, because it drives me mad swimming.

Needs washing twice a day and doesn't suit me very short.

Long hair is always easier for me.

I don't swim but it is useful tieing it back if I go out on the hills, it just feels a bit flat at the moment, and heavy on the back of my neck.

I'd cut it shorter if I were you. I think it would suit you short - you have nice cheekbones.

I've never regretted hacking mine off. But at the moment i have a medium length style that I am happy with, but will grow it to a bob and then hack it off again!

My face is the same shape as yours (and I have fabulous cheekbones - not just my opinion, I'm told by other people) Grin

Short hair will look good with your shape of face (I had mine really short when I was pg with DC1) but if you don't go to the hairdressers often, it will drive you demented.

Mine is a shoulder length bob ATM, no fringe, no layers.
I've toyed with having a fringe put back in or going cropped again, but then thought of all the reasons why I grew it out.

You are looking at maintence of 6-10 weeks cutting and probably daily washing.
The advantage is, with wavy hair ,is you wash and go, a bit of product, quick comb and voila!.

Thank you! I've never been complimented on my cheekbones before!

I could probably manage 6-10 weeks haircuts - I think a friend knows a mobile hairdresser, which could make things easier. And I wash it daily or every couple of days anyway as it tends to get greasy quickly, so that would be fine...

but can I ask about product - the hairdresser's mentioned it before and put nice smelling stuff on at the end but I've neve been quite sure what it is. I normally use rinse-out conditioner, is it leave on conditioner or something similar?

I love to wash my hair, every morning. It falls into place (good cut, straight hair) and I don't feel "clean" til it's been washed.

I've had very long hair.....til I was 40 odd and now it's very softly cut. Short and swishy and I love it.

JammySplodger · 11/08/2012 20:40

Short & swishy sounds good. It would have been long and swishy if I hadn't got fed up of it and tied it back all day again.

I know what you mean about washing every day, I suspect if I did go short I'd have to, to stop it taking on it's own mad style.
