how do you care for your feet? I have got hard skin on my soles and around my feet - I tried to soak in the hot water but does not help...

Soap and Glory foot file :)

neverputasockinatoaster · 09/08/2012 19:59

I have a foot file as recommended on here - Soap and Glory I think. I file my hooves every couple of days and slap on a heel softening cream morning and night. I'm currently using an Avon one but I have used Scholl and they all seem OK to me.

My feet can be really disgusting in the summer (hence the hooves) but since using the soap and glorly file they seem much better.

Soap & Glory footfile from Boots

Another vote for Flexitol. Amazing! And also gets rid of bumps on backs of arms.

I've found that creams ease cracked skin and do soften, but that eventually the hard skin turns waxy yellow which is just as unappealing.

I find it better to remove the skin (for me, it gets really thick and painful on the heels).

I soak my feet in a pan of warm water with a footsoak for 20 minutes.

then I use one of these to remove the White dead skin that appears after soaking

It has a replaceable razor blade that shaves off the skin.

You have to be very careful to only take off the dead skin. At first it's best to take off a little, soak again until white and soft and repeat. Use a clean blade for each foot, and slow strokes. You can buy replacement blades very cheaply. In Germany they have a safety version which is quite effective and exposes less of the foot to the blade. Practice does make it more effective.

Once I've taken off the skin (I do it last thing at night) I smother my feet in thick hand cream and put on Bodyshop cotton socks. When I wake up in the morning my feet feel smooth and great.

I used to pay around £30 for a chiropodist to do the same thing every 6 weeks.

I use Scholl Foot Scrub twice a week followed by judicious use of a foot file (Scholl again I think). I keep footcream by my bed and slather it on every night before sleep. I think the key thing is to really work the cream into the rough patch areas. I also use Solar Oil on my cuticles to keep them looking neat too. I have been doing this regime for the last 6 weeks and my feet are ridiculously baby soft, having previously been hoof-like.

Another devotee of the Soap and Glory foot file here, then a good coating of 8 hour cream, and a pair of socks over it just before bedtime.

Did it just before hols which were over a month ago, sitting here in sandals and they probably need doing again but might last another week.

However what's that Flexitol recommended above, do Boots stock it, I might try it?

ujjayi · 10/08/2012 10:44

Boots do stock Flexitol. I know lots of MNers rave about it but I found it rank TBH and it didn't do any more than the Scholl cream (which smells much better!). The Flexitol left a really greasy slick on my skin whereas the Scholl stuff sinks right in and feels much softer straight away.
