Bikini waxing...May be TMI for some

Hello everyone

I am a lurker who is finally posting for some advice on an embarassing problem. Would be grateful for any advice in the matter of bikini line waxing for the more hirsute among us Blush

I get mine waxed, just the sides, but it has to be done every 3 weeks and regrowth is visible after 2 weeks tbh. Is there a better way to get rid of the hair? I have considered shaving but would it be itchy and would it feel spikey?
Do more permanent methods actually work?

I can't leave it because it's really thick black horrible hair Sad

Well done for posting a thread, I haven't got the guts yet!

Yes permanent methods work. Get IPL it will change your life. Takes about a year's worth if sessions & its not cheap but saves money in long run plus it's just so nice to not ever have to think about that sort of thing again!

Go somewhere decent & also do background reading about skin colour etc as its more effective on some than others.

Good luck!

Oh sorry! Abit cryptic :)

IPL is a form of laser, it stands for Intense Pulsed Light. That's all I know, google will fill you in!

GeordieBore · 08/08/2012 16:21

IPL didn't work for me - I had ten sessions.

Can wholeheartedly recommend laser hair removal at a Sk:n salon thoug - dramatic results right from the start! Plan to have six sessions (one session every six weeks). You may need another top-up session after a year or two.

persephonejones · 08/08/2012 16:26

Thanks Geordie. Is your hair very thick and dark, if thats not too intrusive a question?

I use Lumea, the home IPL thing. It works really really well for me. I found that I look hairy in between wax. A combination of pale skin and dark hair. (Incidentally that's the best colouring for IPL). I just keep myself zapped all over, including the bikini line regularly. I'm doing touch ups about every 4-6 weeks, and just shave before doing the touch up.

persephonejones · 08/08/2012 17:17

Ohhelpohnotisa: I want something I can have done ina salon really. I need the element of surprise with painful things and would never be able to do it myself.

OneLittleToddlingTerror: have seen yo uover in the other thread on this topic. I have dark hair and dark sking which seems to be a bad combo Sad

If you have dark hair and dark skin I don't think laser/IPL in a salon would work either Sad. Laser works by burning the melanin in the hair. Do you need a good contrast or your skin will burn too.

Meglet · 08/08/2012 18:36

Just to add I had electrolysis years ago and all the hair grew back, even after repeat sessions. It's not permanent if you have werewolf hair.

I was looking into those fancy handheld laser hair removal things you get in Boots, I spend so much time / money on waxing it might just help.

There will be no skirts or skimpy clothes for me in this life .

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 08/08/2012 18:58

Meglet, lumea is one of those fancy hair laser things. I did some research on them and I decided on the lumea in the end. I bought mine at the start of the year. Amazon only had the old model, and John Lewis had the newer one. I got the newer one because it has an attachment for the face. I have really dark and thick hair. I am totally transformed by it. I used to shave every other day.

Pinkflipflop · 08/08/2012 19:04

Would totally recommend the lumea, it's amazing!!

AwaitingResults · 08/08/2012 19:07

Why not use cream? Laser doesnt work on dark skin.

shoppingbagsundereyes · 08/08/2012 21:28

Just googled the lumea. Sounds brilliant but does it hurt? I had laser treatment on my chin and I felt like someone was ironing my face while firing tiny arrows at it at the same time. Worked really well but I can't face going back for more

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 08/08/2012 22:07

It doesn't hurt for me. But I haven't tried salon laser so can't compare.

Pinkflipflop · 08/08/2012 22:19

The lumea doesn't hurt at all!!
