Oil - best thing EVER for dry curly hair <gavel>

I've been doing the OCM on my face for about 6 months and I love it, skin is in great condition. I ran out of Boots Curl Creme for my hair a few weeks ago and thought 'hmm, I wonder what would happen if.....'

Basically, I shove a load of oil onto my soaking wet hair from mid-lengths to ends, try to coat every single strand, then add some leave in conditioner. Wrap in towel for 10-15 minutes, unwrap, faff about with it as little as humanly possible and air dry (just the 10 hours then Hmm)

Hair looks truly marvellous if I say so myself Barely a hint of frizz, just lovely shiny, defined curls which last for 2 days easily.

I have heard great things about argan oil but so far I have used avocado oil and bogstandard olive oil and they have been fab. And they cost absolutely naff all compared to other products, like the Aveda curl cream which cost sixteen fecking quid and did nowt for my hair!

Give it a go curly mammas Wink

Coconut oil is good too.

peedoffbird · 11/08/2012 05:44

Doesn't it smell?!

Lottapianos · 11/08/2012 11:46

Haven't had any complains peedoffbird Smile You could put a few drops of your favourite essential oil in the the bottle I guess. Or use coconut oil, that would smell lush!

Coconut oil is amaze! I have been using it on my straight, v thick hair and it looks brilliant.
However, it does not smell of coconut. Just a little oily type smell.

What is OCM? Ta.

nancy75 · 11/08/2012 14:35

Not on my curly hair, Moroccan oil makes me look like I was dumped in a chip pan

Lottapianos · 12/08/2012 11:51

twonker, its the Oil Cleansing Method, using oil to cleanse your face. Have a google or look through Style and Beauty for more info. Highly recommended.

So Lotta, you are slathering the oil on and that's it? Not washing it off?

Lottapianos · 12/08/2012 12:05

Not washing it off, no. Wash and condition hair as usual, then apply oil to soaking wet hair, mid lengths to ends (not roots). Then I add a leave-in conditioner all over, work through really well, coat every strand and wrap head in a towel. Leave in towel for 10-15 mins then arrange into a style and air dry.

I'm sure this wouldn't work for everyone but I do have extremely dry hair and it's the best thing I've used. I had heard rave reviews of Aveda Be Curly curl cream but it was no use for my frizz. My hair also tends to 'eat' products so when it dries it looks shiny but not oily, if that makes sense.

Yes, I do know what you mean. My dd's hair is like a hungry baby. I'll give it a go, thanks. I reckon by the time she's 18 I should have it under control!

bronze · 12/08/2012 12:11

I'm the same as perplexed

Lottapianos · 12/08/2012 12:18

Like a hungry baby - love it! Smile

Off now to rinse out my deep conditioner (cheapo Coconut and Almond stuff from Superdrug) and try out this coconut oil lark!

My curly hair loves oil too. I've tried olive oil in the past but not coconut oil. Got some in the pantry as I use it for cooking sometimes, will give it a go but I assume you melt it first?

Lottapianos · 12/08/2012 15:55

I used coconut oil from Superdrug - its white and solid at room temperature but you can melt it in your hands. I only put it in 2 hours ago and hair is not even half-dry yet but looking good already!
