Talk to me about the shape of jeans/trousers

I'm pear shaped, with ridiculously short legs and a long body, which makes buying trousers, and especially jeans, a nightmare. So rather than torture myself, I wear skirts or dresses 95% of the time. However occasionally trousers just fit the bill a whole lot better, so hidden away in the back of my wardrobe I have a pair of wide leg trousers and a pair of boot cut jeans

Now I've read the threads and used my eyes, and I know boot cuts are frumpy/dated/whatever and I should be wearing skinnies, but I've tried on lots of pairs and I am not comfortable in them, don't bother trying to convince me otherwise!

On those rare occasions when I wear trousers, I prefer baggier bottom half, fitted top half, and I do like wide leg, sailor type trousers with a flat front, something like this, or these jeans, for example. But is this style a big, frumpy, no no, or can I stay in my comfort zone? And if it is acceptable, what to wear on top and on my feet?

Thank you, wise ladies

Bootcuts/flares, high heels, fitted top - cannot go wrong. I've said this loads of times too: Bootcuts are not frumpy if worn correctly. However, wear them too short with frumpy shoes and a fleece and its a different matter!

I think bootcut and heels combo a bit dated tbh?

The most fashionable clothes are the ones that suit you body. I'm pear shaped, and feel more stylish in bootcuts. Other styles, even though more 'fashionable', make me look more frumpy. The phrase, 'mutton dressed as lamb' comes to mind when you see people who are plainly wearing fashionable clothes that don't suit them.

What about straight leg jeans? I find I can do these, but not skinnies. I'm a bit above average height and a size 10 but there's something about the hip width to leg circumference ratio that doesn't do it for me in skinnies. I look like a hippo on stilts! A bit of a wider lower leg works better for me...

as others have said, wear what suits you. I have a good waist, but very um..strong legs, I look like a carrot in skinnies and would cover up my best features with loose long tops. I don't care if I look old-fashioned - better this than to look ridiculous. This is a good example why most women should in fact not wear skinnies:
