Botox - a question for those who have had it?

AmberNectarine · 08/08/2012 08:56

I have been considering Botox for a while now, as although I am quite young (27) and happily wrinkle free, I have a terrible habit of raising my eyebrows when reading/watching TV, and am getting lines on my forehead as a result. They are hardly visible ATM, but I have been toying with having Botox as a preventative measure.

So, would this stop me having a furrowed brow by the time I am 30, and how much upkeep would it entail?

Do it. About once every 6 mths will be fine

faustina · 08/08/2012 09:03

I"m not sure. It might mean you'd develop wrinkles elsewhere. For instance - I used to frown when reading, looking at a screen etc etc, now I narrow my eyes much more. (I still prefer this to the horrible frown mark that used to be there)

Might be worth trying to find a practitioner you trusted who wasn't out to sell and asking them. I'm going to mine this afternoon - I'll ask her if you like?

Charliefox · 08/08/2012 09:34

Way too young. Save it until you really need it. You may think you 'need' it now but trust me when I say you almost certainly don't!

faustina · 08/08/2012 18:40

Right. She says if you're raising your eyebrows when you do all those things, the first thing you need to do is get your eyes tested. Secondly, she says you could definitely do preventative work.

She showed me a before and after photo of someone the same age as you. Before, their forehead was literally like someone who'd worked outside for twenty years - it was unbelievable - seriously. Then she showed me the after and it was completely smooth. the person had had two treatments in 20 months.

Everything i said in my first post about getting wrinkles elsewhere is apparently bollocks, so please ignore. Smile

noddyholder · 08/08/2012 18:41

You are too young I have it because of constant raising of brows and I first had it at 45. It works really well in this instance but if you start now you will develop lines elsewhere. Wait!

noddyholder · 08/08/2012 18:42

Everyone I know who has it has other lines esp at top of nose

faustina · 08/08/2012 18:45

That's what I thought Noddy, but my botox person says it doesn't work like that

AmberNectarine · 08/08/2012 18:48

Thanks very much for that info faustina, that is really helpful. I am horrendously short sighted and am a regular at the opticians, so that is definitely why I do it, although I'm sure it's partially force of habit too.

Where is your lady based? Not in London by any chance?

faustina · 08/08/2012 19:10

No she's in Suffolk - sorry! She is very good though!

noddyholder · 08/08/2012 19:11

Well mine does Grin! I notice all people who have it eventually develop little lines at the top of the nose from crinkling it. My bloke is a surgeon though so is very picky about these things. It seems only natural that if you have an expressive face you will keep trying to express using different muscles. Kylie has these 'bunny lines' I have notice i wrinkle my nose more when the botox is in full effect

AmberNectarine · 08/08/2012 19:11

Argh, curses. Anyone got any recs for SW Lon?

Amber, there is a Botox practitioner in Elys. Can't remember the name of the clinic but it is there and has been for a while. Maybe worth a look?

AmberNectarine · 08/08/2012 21:03

Ooh really? Will check that out, thanks!

The doctor in SW19 who also works in Elys is Dr Helen St John. She is excellent. Very reasonable prices, very clever with botox. She is incredibly glam but ultra approachable. She only recommends things that will really work, and doesn't up-sell. I had the same forehead lines when I was 25 as OP, waited until I was 30 to do something. Wish I'd done it earlier! Smooth now in 40s. But can still raise/arch eyebrows. Botox doesn't have to mean an immovable face. If OP sees a good doctor and asks for an honest objective consult, and doesn't rush into things, it's worth investigating for her own info.

I use this on my forehead. Just run it over for a minute every morning. One pen lasts for around 8-12 months.

I had to show my hairdresser because he was convinced I'd had botox. I don't know whether to be flattered that people think I've had botox or Hmm

Where is this very good woman in Suffolk please?

faustina · 09/08/2012 17:00

She's in Bury St Edmunds Knitknack. Pm me if you like and I'll give you her contact details. Have been going to her for 3 years now - she's v v good

QueenieCake · 17/11/2022 18:48

I’m adding to this thread to say do not go to Dr Helen St John. The positive review above made me get filler done by her and it’s awful. I’ve had filler done 3 times before so I know what it should be like.
Dr Helen St John is not a good injector.
She charges the same as the best in London, even though she’ll lie and tell you she’s cheaper. She isn’t. Trust me, call around and find out.
She put filler in a big lump at the side of my nose when I said I wanted tear troughs filled, it migrated down my face so now it’s a weird lump on my cheek by my nose, she put more on one side than the other so my face is uneven now, even though I told her before she started injecting to be careful not to do that - almost joking but I guess it gave her the idea?
I honestly think she did it on purpose because I’m young and pretty.
She has problems.
