Chelsea boots: how and which ones?

I am clueless but have £30 of Asos vouchers and need to replace my knackered ankle boots, so Chelsea boots seemed like a good idea.

I would love the red suede but am a chunky, saggy, 35 year old post-natal size 16 14 and barely have time to do my hair most mornings. Ungroomed, would I turn them into hippy mum boots and am I too fat and old for them? Do you have to be 22 and built like a stick to get away with the fun colours? I also suspect that the suede ones might die horribly when faced with my glamorous lifestyle of hauling DC round playgrounds in the rain.

If so, I am prepared to accept this and move on. I like the brown or chocolate orange ones but how do you style them? Skinnies rolled up, or tucked in? Tights or leggings with tunic ok? I so do not have the legs for tights with shorts of any length and won't until I am two stone lighter.

Before reading my reply you need to know I own dark blue bootcut jeans, mum boots and several Shite Stuff tops which I think are flattering. I feel great in them when I wear them, so my qualifications on the S&B pages are zero.

On the plus side, I think it is physically impossible for someone to be too fat for ankle boots at size 14-16. They're boots not bikinis, and those red ones are fab, so you should get them and love them. The colour is really subtle and would go with lots of things. All suede boots look rubbish after a single outing in the rain though, so maybe leather would be a better idea.

I'd wear skinny jeans a bit long and slightly wrinkles over the top, which stops your legs from looking chopped off at the ankle.

Get them. S&B police may say otherwise, but if you like them, flaunt them. No shame!

Well, I chickened out and went for the brown but if they are fabulously ace I might get the red ones with some remaining birthday money...

I hate being sensible. Grin

I love the colour, but I do think that heels are more flattering than flat boots if you are a little overweight. Also black, worn with opaque tights will elongate your legs.

That said, I am boring, so feel free to ignore.

I agree, but I need the boots for walking around in and I am shit at heels (I fall over in them)!

I am also hoping to be less overweight when DD has been around for a bit longer. Boots to diet into, maybe?

Also, I wasn't agreeing with you about being boring: I didn't mean that to come across as rude!

You weren't rude Smile.

I am not very good at being adventurous wrt clothing - no clue how to accessorize (sp?). Would like to be less scared of colour, because I absolutely love red shoes!

You know, Asos have a great returns policy...Wink

That spray stuff that you can buy in shoe shops I find really good, I use it on suede or pleather boots and it does a good job of waterproofing. As a fellow size 16 14 I don't think you are particularly overweight, who wants to be a stick insect anyway? (I speak as a former stick insect).
