Calling tea dress afficionados, where'd you buy 'em ?

Inspired by talk on here of tea dresses with opaques and boots, I'm seeing myself swanning around this Autumn , nicking your style.

I've had a quick trawl through t'internet and I can't find any that tickle my fancy, there seem to be plenty that will look kookyily stylish on a size 8, 5' 8" , 20 year old but will leave me - 5' 2", size 14 hourglass, big knockers, over 35 - cough, looking like Hilda Ogden ( one for the kids there ).

I'd like vintage inspired, rather than sludge coloured, 1940s authenticity and ideally cotton, cotton mix.

Fanks.

try lady vintage if you fancy a bargain. Not strictly tea dresses but good.

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 06/08/2012 14:19

oops - here

drjohnsonscat · 06/08/2012 14:24

Cath Kidston does lovely ones every season. Usually in a nice viscosey type fabric so they feel very 40s ish. I have a lovely yellow one which makes me feel like Big Bird Doris Day. I can't see much this season but worth keeping an eye out on the website.

Msarsebiscuit · 06/08/2012 14:46

Thank you, Procrastination, some of the dresses on there are really very pretty, I do have a couple of dresses in that vintage 50s, full skirted shape and I like them very much.

DrJohnsonscat, I think you might be one of the posters whose style I'm after stealing, I looked at the CK site after you mentioned it on another thread, although the CK one I really liked was on eBay but sadly,it was a size 10.

I don't think anyone's ever tried to steal my style before Confused, mainly because I don't one Grin.

But it sounds like we are coming from a similar place. I'm 5ft 7 so taller but also busty and somewhat rounded and have very bad legs so risk looking like a giant, heffalumping Tiny Tears doll if I wear anything cute that would look fantastic on Alexa Chung. I also fully got the Hilda Ogden ref so in the same age bracket.

FWIW this site is always worth keeping an eye one for replicas of vintage things - good for me because genuine vintage is usually too small. Nothing for me there right now but I like to keep an eye out.

Off to duo now to find some boots to cover my ginormous calves while wearing gorgeous tea dress.

Msarsebiscuit · 06/08/2012 15:20

Oh yeah, I know the pain of the giant calf problem - inside, I am actually Alexa Chung, outside, well my hair's a bit Chung and that'll be it...

I love this one from Next- also available in a nice berry colour which would be lovely with tan accessories for autumn. And you can get it in tall if you're worried about flashing your pants.

TheCraicDealer · 06/08/2012 16:46

Shit, thought you were the 5"7 poster....you can get it in petite, I mean (nice save :D)

ujjayi · 06/08/2012 19:25

Hi Msarsebiscuit how are you getting on with Tracey? :o

About your OP....I love a good tea dress and other than vintage stores, these are the other places I would recommend:

Brora
Toast
Boden (although I always end up taking them up to above the knee as length a bit frumpy on my short legs)
Great Plains
H&M
People Tree
ASOS (searching for midi dress rather than tea dress - you'll get more of a selection)

Msarsebiscuit · 06/08/2012 19:25

No, craicdealer, no chance of me flashing my pants (unintentionally) unless I decided to wear a pair of bloomers.
I like the colour of that dress vair much, I like berry shades, they suit my pasty celtic skin.

Ah hello, ujjayi, you threw me a bit then, all I could think about was mentioning Hilda Ogden and thinking you meant Tracey Barlow but then I am barking mad. Tracey and I are having a relationship in which I regularly shout ' No Tracey, you fascist ! ' and ' get stuffed, Trace' - not sure I'll ever get the hang of the standing abs. Fortunately I attempt it in private for fear of sectioning. How are you getting on ?

( and thanks for the ideas - I don't usually frequent the poshness of Toast and Brora but I'll have a look )

Msarsebiscuit - am strictly a "sale time only" gal with Toast & Brora myself.

:o at Tracey Barlow reference! I'm afraid you are way too polite with Ms Anderson. I construct entire sentences from expletives during my workouts with her. She remains unaffected and continues to torture me. I thought I had the hang of the abs.....until I watched myself in the mirror. And sadly I am still more Bill & Ben than Madge & Gwynnie.

I like the maintain the illusion for my delightful offspring that Mummy doesn't swear - as fucking if.

Yumi do a lot of lovely tea dresses, quite short though so best over leggings or tights unless you have supermodel legs!

Msarsebiscuit · 06/08/2012 21:50

Igglepiggle, my legs are so far from supermodel legs, it's unreal - think northern pit pony rather than Arabian thoroughbred.

Argh! Yet again I open an S & B thread, yet again I hear my credit card sobbing in terror.
Those Lady Vintage dresses are gorgeous!
