Right, I'm going short! Ideas please..

I've decided I need a total change.

I'm 42, have long dark brown hair with red tones that has a strong wave to it. It's a bit uncontrollable and unpredictable. It's very thick and has a tendency to be frizzy. I usually wear it clipped up. I have an oval face, and I wear glasses. Nice picture, eh? Grin

I've been trawling the internet, and as much as I like the really short, pixie like looks, I've seen they are not recommended on wavy/curly hair.

Any suggestions?

I have the same kind of hair and face shape, am 39 with a 2yo toddler and a 10 wk old. I have always had long hair but got to the point at 38 weeks pregnant that if the hairdresser didn't cut my hair I was going to attack it witH my husband clippers. one to many bad hair days.

my hair dark auburn, incredibly thick and very wavy. when it is long I can't leave the house without at least blow drying it to try to tame it. I knew that when DD2 arrived I would have no time for fussing so started looking for a shorter do.

I took the hairdresser a photo of Lisa Rinna and told her to try to replicate it on my hair. the result was fantastic. it looks fab and its truly wash, brush and go which was what I needed. I can glam it up our leave it Au naturale and it looks good.

google Lisa Rinna and have a look at her hair. it its simple but very feminine cut that is easy to maintain.

Just googled, thank for the tip!

That does look like what I'm after. Thanks!

I've had short hair since I was 15. The trick is to get it cut regularly by the best stylist you can afford. The products are invaluable for styling it. Always use hairspray to finish it off and keep it in place. I trust my hairdresser with my life because when it's short you can't hide it. I love my hair, partly because it's different to those who have long, boring (yawn) locks. Grin

Definitely agree with above, about needing to trust your hairdresser- your first haircut with a new hairdresser is an awful experience, waiting to see if it turns out right!

My hair is thick too, but more of a kink than a wave, and I have a pixie. As long as you get it cut regularly (i.e. 6 weeks) it copes great with being short. I have this hairdo, possibly even a bit shorter, and I love it. I actually went on holiday last week with no straighteners, and just used the hotel hairdryer to waff off the bit of fringe the has a calflick, or whatever they are called. Didn't miss them at all.

The best thing is how versatile it is, with very little effort. Never did anything with long hair, always in a ponytail. With just a hairdryer and some wax now I can do different looks in 5-10 minutes- spiky when I'm feeling that way out, all quiffed back on a punk day, the fringe more to one side and very smooth for a feminine look, or just left to dry with a bit of serum for every day. Hairbands look fab too- a big wide black one gives a bit of an "Audrey Hepburn" look.

Ooh, I'm quite inspired by this thread. Have been toying with the idea of going short again recently after my hairdresser (who I trust implicitly!) said he would love to cut it short. It's been in a bob for AGES and I'm getting really bored with it.

I'm thinking something along these lines. Or maybe a Minogue type thing - although I might be too scared to go that short Smile.

I'm a bit worried as I'm sure I remember making a mental note never to go so short again...but I'm trying to convince myself it's a good idea as I think it's time for a change!

CrunchyFrog · 07/08/2012 08:36

Be prepared, if you're the easily bored type, for mental hair while it grows out. Mine looks mad at the moment. It's a mullet, actually. Grin

I loved the pixie cut and will probably get back to it once my hair reaches shoulder length, that's what normally happens.

I've had the same style for 10 years! So a change is definitely called for.

I just need to be brave.

Do it!

Coffee, I started off by asking for <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=sarah+harding+hair&hl=en&sa=X&rls=com.microsoft:en-gb:IE-SearchBox&rlz=1I7GGNI_en-GBGB443&biw=1600&bih=660&tbm=isch&prmd=imvnso&tbnid=BW2QA4DxEFIEzM:&imgrefurl=www.cosmopolitan.co.uk/beauty-hair/most-wanted-rock-chick-hair-83040&docid=lISLm5zc3WFfoM&imgurl=www.cosmopolitan.co.uk/cm/cosmopolitanuk/images/SE/or_b3e80f8912144009266797.jpg&w=450&h=600&ei=m9AiUNbgOYaq0QXA4YDACw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=951&vpy=282&dur=760&hovh=259&hovw=194&tx=123&ty=181&sig=114449348387764819342&page=2&tbnh=149&tbnw=115&start=36&ndsp=44&ved=1t:429,r:6,s:36,i:270" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this cut, I think there is a pic on my profile of just after I had it done. She went a little bit shorter with the fringe I think. It looks so long when I look at it now!
