what would you put in the alcoves of your living room either side of the chimney breast? shelves? wall lights?
trying to go more modern!

Is it quite a big room? If so then shelves, if not then can make it feel smaller.

In ours we have tv and an antique chinese silk in one and a georgian bureau and a painting of our dog (really!) in the other

WideWebWitch · 08/03/2006 20:34

shelves and books I would. Or pictures?

Flossam · 08/03/2006 20:36

Our (hopefully) new house has two nice shelving units, with a spotlight over the top of both of them. Really made a good first impression on me when viewing (so much so we asked to keep them!)

moondog · 08/03/2006 20:38

I had shelves built in my old Georgian town house which was good. Had them slotted so could be moved up and down and even had the tv in there.

In this house,I have a Chinese chest with a tv on it in one,and a glass doored corner cabinet that belonged to dh's grandfather in the other.

(Who did the picture CD?)

Have huge picture over fireplace, so didn't want to distract too much from that. So have had put in 2 wall lights with gorgeous mirrored plates (trendy at moment). TV (on stand) on floor on one side. Shelves and enourmous plant (£10 from Ikea) on other. Clock (that tones in with painting) and glass knick-knacks on mantelpiece.

adjustable glass shelves with low voltage downlighters above.

jmg1 · 08/03/2006 20:49
  • fitted cupboards (mdf) below the shelves, about 90cm height.

Hey that's pretty groovy!
Didn't think it would be naff somehow as know you are woman of impeccable taste who frequents wine pods.

My dear friend has a huge tapestry (tufted) of her Alsatian that her mother slaved for months over.
Lord,but it is hideous!
