Holiday handbag

Do you take your normal handbag?
Or do you need a holiday handbag?

I admit I need a holiday handbag. I can not even contemplate going on holiday with my normal (brown leather lovely cross body) bag.
I use it once I'm back, but need a new holiday 1!

So we go to the south of france on Sunday.
We are family of 5, dd1 7, dts 3 plus me 'n' him. So need a reasonable sized bag to store shit, but don't want to be totally uncool.

I like:
www.warehouse.co.uk/formed-clean-shopper./Bags-&-Clutches/warehouse/fcp-product/309798 but I'm wondering if I just want it and am trying to justify it.

Please come and tell me about your holiday handbags!

I love my handbags and have a few mulberry and 2 balenciaga bags. I have a long champ pliage bag that I sometimes use for holidays. I have just bought a small Kipling cross body bag to use for a short sightseeing trip to Barcelona. I think it will be easy to use, light and secure and I won't have to worry about it. I do prefer how the Longchamp looks though! They are also very light and easy to use, but don't have pockets to organise your stuff. It is exciting planning for a holiday, let us know what you decide.

I've become an enthusiastic convert to Kipling bags for holidays. My favourite is a black and white stripe number from the Vintage collection. It's 38cm long 23cm high with a 13cm wide base but looks way smaller because it's unstructured.

It's a veritable Tardis - easily swallows my netbook, mobile, kindle, large purse/wallet, small umbrella, make-up bag, etc, without looking over stuffed and has a zipped back pocket which is useful for travel documents.

Kipling bags weigh virtually nothing and when I go back to my leather bags I'm always taken aback by how heavy they are after I've transferred my life the contents.

They're also washable, have waterproof linings, pockets for pens, phones, and whatnots, and some have a key holder attached to the inside which is useful if there's only one key to lose a property.

Check out the Kipling site and then compare prices on eBay and also QVC who stock a good selection and deliver quickly.

Btw, the Kipling monkeys are detachable, can be used as key rings, and kids love 'em!

Although I wasn't able to make your link connect to a bag, I took a look at what I think may be your 'formed clean shopper' on the Warehouse website and it seems to me that it's something of a hybrid in it's that's trying to be 'city bag' as opposed to a vacation bag and I've never been fond of synthetic materials for bags.

Also, given that you have small dc to contend with, you're best advised to opt for a bag that can be slung over your shoulder leaving your hands free.

Of the Warehouse styles on offer I preferred the stripe and spot canvas over-size shoppers by far, but I doubt that they'd last longer than one vacation before they began to look tatty. They look like the kind of beach bags of which I've left so many in bins after the last day.

This Kipling shopper www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peter-Pilotto-x-Kipling-ALHENA-limited-edition-rare-bag-Black-/250975091321?pt=UK_Women_s_Handbags&hash=item3a6f47fa79 may look dull by comparison but, trust me, in the flesh it won't be and you'll be surprised at how well it will suit your daytime holiday garb.

Check out the seller's other items to see the same style in a yellow colourway and also take a look at their Pilotto 'Machine' print shopper which I reckon is big enough to take all I'd need for a fortnight or more as handluggage.

This particular seller's prices for collectible Kipling/Pilloto bags are extremely competitive and for the price of your Warehouse bag you can have a stylish and durable shopper/beach/all purpose bag that you'll find a use for all year round together with a matching capacious purse - and your dc will have a mini-monkey* friend to share their adventures while you're on holiday.

*What looks like a fluffy bobble on the side of the bag in the photo is an adorable little Kipling toy monkey which some folk pay almost as much for as the bag.

Funny the above poster mentions the collectible Kipling bags because the Pilotto(sp) bags were in TK Maxx about three moths back along with regular Kipling bags.

I have some Le Pillage bags and they are good although they haven't got lots of pockets.

I have a holiday bag and you're all going to laugh at me. It's from M&S and similar to this
www.marksandspencer.com/Turn-Lock-Cross-Body-Bag/dp/B00855KMY6?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_7&nodeId=437341031&sr=1-7&qid=1344238693

I wanted something that was small, light, bulky and could easily be put in a larger npbag. Tough, could withstand being a little wet with secure pockets. Big enough for 3 iPod Touches, my phone and my wallet. It's the only thing I could find.

We're doing another long touring holiday again this year through Europe. Doing anything from visiting castles, hiking up hills, theme park, pottering around towns and lazing by the beach

Peeenut · 06/08/2012 08:49

Sorry, NOT bulky Grin

Peeenut · 06/08/2012 08:52

Yesterday I got a holiday purse us.accessorize.com/view/product/us_catalog/acc_1,acc_1.1/2900468900

My usual wallet is quite large and is secured by a popper button. I liked that this one was fairly small and had a zip al the way around so cards are less likely to fall out.

I have a navy Lonchamp or a grey Vanessa Bruno Cabas tote for chucking all the beach crap etc. in and then I take a little cross body, either this or this, both have removable straps and double up as clutches.
