Are these shoes frumpy old ladyish or are they saved by the colour?

I liked these on the website but tried them on in the shop today - in black, they didn't have red - and they were a little old ladyish. Do you think the red colour makes them less frumpy or nay?

I am in my early 30s btw, LOVE shoes, but have plantar fasiitis and am a SAHM so they really need to be comfortable sound like my mother

Maybe I should also say - my style in winter is very much tea dress, opaque tights/leggings and boots/shoes.

They're fine. Quite like them but not quite my thing. I'm an old lady though - 46.

BelleDameSansMerci · 05/08/2012 20:05

Would definitely work with your "look".

IawnCont · 05/08/2012 20:06

I think the red ones are a bit too Dorothy for me- They look like little girl shoes. I do like the mushroom though, and the black patent. Funny that you think they're old ladyish and I think they're little girlish! :o

DamselInLastPlace · 05/08/2012 20:07

I think they're lovely. I'd probably allow myself to covet them if I could wear heels!

Chrestomanci · 05/08/2012 20:11

Iawn - Dorothy is a good thing to my mind. I have some shoes from Office that you'd hate - they are blue and EXACTLY like the school shoes I had when I was 6, so little girlish may not be a problem to my shame

Belle - thank-you Smile but also pshaw, 46 isn't old lady!

I love them and have a flat version similar to those that I had from Clarks last year which I wear a lot. Red is funky!

IawnCont · 05/08/2012 20:15

I am proper jealous of your Dorothy aspirations- I walk like a transvestite in heels. So in those, plus tea dress, I would look like I'm on my way to a Judy Garland tribute concert, with a big pair of testicles between my legs Hmm :o

Boggler · 05/08/2012 20:16

chrestomanci I used to suffer with terrible plantar fasilitis to the point that walking was agony and I was very limited in what footwear I could choose. I tried exercises and they didn't help much and my gp suggested steroid injections but because I'd heard that they were agony I wasnt keen. Anyway I searched the web and came accross this act splint that you wear at night and it's transformed my life! I can now wear any footwear and feel cured.

The shoes are lovely by the way.

bigTillyMint · 05/08/2012 20:18

I like them and they would look lovely with a teadress and opaque tights.

I am an old lady though!

Chrestomanci · 05/08/2012 20:21

Iawn - Genuinely Lolled at that Grin it would definitely be a look...
I tried to google my shoes of shame for you buy mystifyingly they don't make them any more. They are a bit like these but blue and have a pattern in little holes punched in the toes, so as you can see there may not be much to be jealous of in my 'style'. I need all the help I can get...

Oooh Boggler, that looks alarming. Does it really not hurt to wear? The carrot of a cure, and any shoes I like is very tempting I must admit...

i love them in the Red would look great for Autumn /Winter with your style which sounds a bit like mine and i am ancient at 49

WhereMyMilk · 05/08/2012 20:26

Christ, yes, frump!

Sorry to be harsh. I wouldn't and I'm 44 and a complete shoeaholic

thenightsky · 05/08/2012 20:28

I love them. I am going to buy them as I too have troublesome feet. They look like heels I could just about manage.

Now... what colour opaques would a person wear with red shoes?

MrsJohnMurphy · 05/08/2012 20:30

They are fine, but then again I have seen some horrific shoes linked on here that people seem to salivate over, so I don't think my opinion counts.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 05/08/2012 20:33

They are cute.

NettOlympicSuperstar · 05/08/2012 20:34

Good grief, very frumpy, but trying hard not to be.
Step away.

hydrangeas · 05/08/2012 20:38

the mushroom ones are vile¬ but i hate croc and animal print

MrsAlexanderSkarsgard · 05/08/2012 21:32

I like them - I have a pair I bought about 2 Xmas ago in dark purple patent
They are very comfy and I've had some nice compliments about them

Hopefully · 05/08/2012 21:40

They're not exactly jaw droppingly stylish, but I certainly wouldn't look at them and think you had borrowed them from your granny. not bad, all in all.

Boggler · 05/08/2012 22:17

chrestomanci no it doesn't hurt it's soft and sort of pulls the front of your foot up, you adjust the stretch yourself to whatever suits you, I started with a slight stretch and gradually increased it night by night. I bought mine in June 2011 out of desperation and my dh thought I was bonkers, however after just a few nights I noticed the pain was reduced and gradually went altogether after a few weeks of using the splint. I always found that my PF was worse in the summer - maybe due to walking barefoot and flat sandals etc, however this year no pain and I haven't had to use the splint once (yet). So that's pretty good for me - hence my claim to be cured.

The picture I posted is from amazon and is of the actual splint I used however I think I bought mine on eBay for about £15. If you decide to get one let me know how you get on.

Chrestomanci · 05/08/2012 22:25

So about 80% in favour. I shall try them on in real life & report back...
