most people these days have painted rather than papered walls and that he often just puts up a lining paper and paints over it.

do you have this in your house and do you live in a new or old house?

thanx for any advice Smile

My mum always swore by a good anaglypta so you could paint over the thick, embossed pattern for the next 3 millenia Wink

Either that or woodchip!

We took all the paper off downstairs, had the bad bits replastered and have now just painted it. It's an oldish house.

actually annie I think that might be what we did as well. I always leave to stay at my mum's when work is done so not sure of details but I think we may have had entire walls re-done as well.

We used to get a lot of noise from next door and were thinking about sound-proofing but having had the re-plastering done it's much better now.

Most of our walls are various shades of white/off-white/ivory, makes the place feel more spacious. We have used "accent walls" in a couple of rooms to add a bit of colour - eg red in the study(spare room) and sky blue in our bedroom. We have a very pale duck-egg blue/grey colour in the hallway, it was Dulux - Chiffon Grey or something like that.

I am jealous of you decorating!! We are planning to move this year and can't wait to get into a new house and have all the fun of choosing paint colours... Smile

No, we have mixture of plain or tiny-patterned wallpaper on walls that were appallingly plastered, and paint on the walls that were reasonably plastered. Really can't be bothered papering then painting.

horse hair - really Shock I had no idea.

We also had some awful woodchip paper in the front room which for some reason when we moved in we decided to paint bright yellow, and for some even more bizarre reason we also got red carpet - then realised it was impossible to find matching furniture so we just replaced the whole lot. Now it's all Crazy Cream.
