Definition of frumpy?

I have just realised how behind I am on style. I only just realised how frumpy bootcut jeans are!

Can anyone enlighten me to anything else I should avoid? Also which shops are frumpy? I am 31 so should know better!

Do these things belong on list?
Bootcut jeans
Pointy shoes?
Boden?

What else would you consider definition of frumpy?
Are jeggings ok?

I really am Completely clueless!

I am no style expert by any means, often get it wrong but I don't think any of the above are frumpy per se. To my mind it's about learning about your body shape and dressing accordingly. Think mid calf skirts and dresses with flat shoes - to me that's frumpy but put with heels making legs look longer makes the look somewhat better. Frumpy is more about dressing badly for your age

There is no definition of frumpy. Bootcut jeans can look great so can pointy shoes and clothes from Boden. I think if you shut your mind off to loads of clothes then you will never experiment. I change my mind about things I like all the time. I hated bootcuts when they first came in and the same with skinnies.
You really need to find out what clothes/colours suit and flatter you then you won't look frumpy.

I think it depends what body shape is wearing each item. I'd noticed a "frumpy mum" at the school gate. She had exactly the same shoes on as me (Clark's Unstructured) and her hair in a bun, mine was in a topknot (!), she had on a mid length unflattering skirt, whereas I was in size 6 skinnies and she was a size 16. She looked noticeably less haggard than me though and had better skin.
It made me have a rethink about my frumpy prejudice and realise that there is definitely a "mum's uniform" involving sensible shoes and tied back hair!
