Smart, quality, straight legged jeans. Which are the best?

I'm looking to spend around £100.00 - £150.00. I'm 36 and have had three children, so the rise needs to not be too low. I want a beautiful fit, quality fabric, and for them to last the distance.

Wot say you lot?

Uniqlo (well under budget at about £30)

I just got a lovely pair of MiH jeans in T K Maxx for £39 down from about £160. They fit the bill: straight leg, soft good quality denim, not too low rise. I think the style is called "road trip".

7 for all mankind classic straight leg, brilliant. Great denim and cut. TKMaxx had some recently for about £50

Fuckitthatlldo · 01/08/2012 10:17

Oooh yes I've always fancied a pair of 7 for all mankind. Where can I find them in the shops? Not really a fan of buying clothes online - I like to be able to feel the fabric and try stuff on.

Next sell sevens , you can try them on in lots of sizes without parting with any money Smile

Fuckitthatlldo · 01/08/2012 12:03

Next? Really?

Donna Ida has a large range of jeans. Not sure if there is a shop near you. John Lewis and House of Fraser sell a range of jeans.I would also recommend Uniqlo. I love their jeans - they are a great fit for me and only about £30 a pair.

bishboschone · 01/08/2012 13:15

Yep next do brands now . Not in store, also always in the sale.

Astr0naut · 01/08/2012 13:21

SLight sidetrack, but what flat shoes do you wear with striaght leg jeans? I've got soem, and they look ok with heels, but for every day running about, I always feel like they look a bit odd.

I either wear them with my old adidas pumps (thinik indie kid C.1996) or (during the winter) boots, but the top of my boots used to push the leg out.

MrsCampbellBlack · 01/08/2012 13:24

NYDJ are aimed at an older market and I think can be a tad aging. But I am possibly put off by the fact that my mil wears them - she also found them to be pretty poor quality.

I'd second Dexter and try to get to a store like Donna Ida and try loads on to find your perfect pair.

Lambzig · 01/08/2012 13:24

Paige premium denim Melrose cut. I also like James Jeans Hunter - they give a great bottom lifting effect.

Have to say I am a huge fan of Uniqlo skinny straigth and normal straight jeans.

DonaAna · 01/08/2012 13:31

Second 7FAM. Have several good straight leg pairs from them, great quality.

I have just aquired some levi slight curve straight legged jeans...OMG, they are fantastic!!! Made for real women with real curves!

Fuckitthatlldo · 01/08/2012 17:45

Yes I've heard good things about the levi curve jeans too. I wonder if there's a Uniqlo in Cardiff.... will have to google.

Astr0naut I personally always wear straight legged jeans with some sort of heel, the one exception being when I wear them tucked into a pair of flat black leather riding style boots if I'm dressing super casually. But then my personal style is quite smart and dressy anyway and I'm not really a big jeans wearer in general - I tend to prefer a slim fitting cigarette style trouser in navy, black or neutral colours.

However, a dark pair of beautifully ironed straight legged jeans worn with a white shirt or blouse, a trench, and a gorgeous pair of heels, always looks fab I think.
