Someone must sell T shirts for 5 year old girls in size 7-8-9 that are not slutty and trying hard to be grown-up..... But I can't find any!

My very tall just-5 year old needs some new t shirts, but struggling to find anything suitable.

She's in 7-8 or 8-9 and It's quite saddening how grown-up the tees in many shops are. I want little girl tops, nice wholesome t shirts.!
They don't have to be expensive, in fact as they're mainly for hols I'd prefer they weren't.

Boden had some, nothing to fit in the sale though.
NEXT- slutty trying to be grown -up.
M&s -nope

Please give me some ideas of where to look.

I like sainsburys for plain T-shirts but they do come up small. I stock up in the sales at Polarn o pyret - their clothes are fantastic quality and they do very good sales, usually 50% off. rainbow babies do fab plain jersey separates. Good if you have more than one child as they last for ages, I get non- gender specific colours and all of mine wear them, they've lasted for years Smile

timetosmile · 31/07/2012 22:36

Asda are usually good, and tesco, and larger Sainsbury's had some lovely ones in earlier in the year (not looked since).

thepeoplesprincess · 31/07/2012 22:49

Yet another vote for Sainsbog's. I always find loads of proper little girls clothes in there.

And Primark is also good for cheap kids tshirts, tho you will have to wade through mountains of that good awful council estate "Club Tropicana" shite to find something pretty.

herecomesthsun · 01/08/2012 06:59

Frugi see here lots of lovely things in organic cotton, in a "young" style. You might just be in time to get something in the sale!

Loveleopardprint · 01/08/2012 07:37

Zara is good for plain t-shirts and had good sales. I feel your pain. Both of my girls are tall and it has been difficult finding age appropriate clothes for them. It is about time that retailers realised children are taller these days. My oldest dd is 12 and 5'7" now!!

MadAboutHotChoc · 01/08/2012 08:56

Agree that H&M is good and so is TU at Sainsbury.

Bonsoir · 01/08/2012 09:18

I bought t-shirts for DD recently that were (a) pretty (b) cheap in Benetton (also very nice hoodies) and Zara.

KissMyEmbroideryHoop · 01/08/2012 09:21

tobermory you don't need to educate me in the ways of cheap fashion retailers for children....I objected to you cementing the horrid way in which people use the word slutty in general.

As it happens, I would not call a woman a slut either...and that is the issue.

Ruprekt · 01/08/2012 09:28

KissMy - get off your high horse! You know damn well what the OP meant so stop being so pedantic!!

KissMyEmbroideryHoop · 01/08/2012 09:29

I'm not being pedantic. It's this relaxed attitude within society about labeling women and girls as "sluts" and "easy" and similar that is really contributing to the disgusting attitude that people have towards us.

wigglesrock · 01/08/2012 09:36

I don't often venture into Style and Beauty and whilst I look at what I'm wearing I'm sure I hear a collective - thank fuck. But I nipped over because I have girls the same age - I agree with Kiss My...., and I'm still astounded at the "god awful council estate" comment. So I'm off to the calmer waters of AIBU.

KissMyEmbroideryHoop · 01/08/2012 09:42

Thank you Wiggle. The ignorance is astounding. I agree of course that girls and boys should wear age appropriate clothing but feel the OP would have been better off describing the t shirts which she did not like as "Sexualised" and therefore inappropriate. To say "slutty" is awful.

Bonsoir · 01/08/2012 10:14

"slutty" is a great word. Very evocative.

EdithWeston · 01/08/2012 10:21

The difference between "slutty" and "over sexualised" is just nitpicking, really.

We could divide the whole thesaurus, but I bet we'd still know which Tshirts OP wants to find and which she wants to avoid.

Ruprekt · 01/08/2012 10:22

We ALL know what the OP meant when she said 'slutty tshirts!'

KissMyEmbroideryHoop · 01/08/2012 12:34

No it is not a great word. It's a word which has been used to label women and girls in an attempt to control their behaviour.

If you act in a certain way then you're a "slag" a "slut" a "whore"....men have been allowed to act in whatever way they like as they've not been seen as anything negative if they sleep with numerous women or dress in a way which shows off their bodies.

There is nothing "nitpicking" about pointing out that a word has negative connotations. It's not very long ago that the N word was "ok" to use.

The word Slut has been the subject of an attempted revolt by the younger section of the Feminist movement....in their "Slut Walk" protests....in which women dressed provocatively and strolled through the streets in this attire....this kind of activity does not come from NOWHERE!

It comes from a hatred of sticking females in boxes where certain behaviour is "not ok" and I will ALWAYS argue against this word being used casually in this way.

KissMyEmbroideryHoop · 01/08/2012 12:35

Yes we DO know what the OP meant Ruprek but we DON'T HAVE TO LIKE IT!!

Lambzig · 01/08/2012 13:20

While the pedants are out.

My mother and grandmother taught me the word slut or slutty, to mean untidy or slattern. I use the word like that too. eg, "sorry about the mess, I have been such a slut all week as work has been really busy". Obviously, I do know and understand the other meaning, but its not the first meaning that comes to mind when I read it.

sorry, off topic.

hifi · 01/08/2012 13:28

Primark, 2.50.

Ruprekt · 01/08/2012 13:41

no need to shout

KissMyEmbroideryHoop · 01/08/2012 15:19

I think there is Ruprek.

Lamb you're in a minority. I know about the original meaning of the word but it's rarely used now...at least not amongst under 50s.

Rosa · 01/08/2012 15:25

lands End have some simple ones, Boden???

wheredidiputit · 01/08/2012 15:54

If you are looking for plain t-shirts, try the boys section as they are bigger then girls one size/age wise.

As I said to my mum why do most companies now do the age range 5 to 16yrs as I can't see either age group wanting to be dress the same.

Lambzig · 01/08/2012 17:14

I am under 50 by a long way!!!

KissMyEmbroideryHoop · 01/08/2012 17:30

Well then you're in even more of a minority..unless it's a local thing. The point is that the OP didn't mean it in the slatternly sense did she...we know that.
