New, expensive-ish bra uncomfortable - after expert Bravissimo fitting, no less

So, lovely Bravissimo lady put me in a 34G Shock rather than my usual 36D or DD.
I had kind of expected something of the sort to happen after a lot of threads on here mentioning that they tend to recommend smaller band size/larger cup size. Also, I've had 4 DCs, Bf, gained wt, lost weight since I last had any kind of bra fitting several years ago.

I have just worn it the 2nd full (well, almost full) day, but just caved and changed back in to one of my well-worn, comfy, non-underwired, too-small bras. Oh, the relief!

The underwires dig in to my ribs underneath the cup and hurt at the very outside of my chest, where the wires comes back up IYKWIM. It is as if the front of the bra is too wide for my chest. The skin is red and rubbed, and I know will feel bruised by tomorrow if the last time I wore it longer than just to prance in front of the mirror. It is a balconette bra, bought to go with a smart dress I am hoping to wear soon.

Having worn it twice, I can of course not return it and that's fair enough.

However, how do I avoid this kind of thing happening again??
Avoid balconettes?
At this kind of cup size anything with a full cup is just really frumpy IMO Sad.

Any ideas/recommendations?

Ok then. Ahem. Confession time.

I went to the shop today. The woman who had a look at me adjusted my straps sorted me out. Apparently, you don't have to tighten the shoulder straps until they cut off your circulation Blush. Who knew??

They were great. Bought another bra and 2 matching knickers. My mother wept happy tears as for the first time ever her middle-aged daughter has a matching lingerie set Grin.

Thanks for all bearing with me xx.

Grin

Yay for getting it sorted and yay for matching undies, it's a slippery slope though.

About a year ago I was the proud owner of some dodgy m&s bras in the wrong size and a couple of cheap m&s multipacks of pants.

I now have 21, well fitted, beautiful bras and most with matching undercrackers.

Brastop is your friend (sort of) possibly not your credit cards friend Grin

Have you tried Cleo bras? i just had 2 in 34GG from Bravissimo and they are so amazing DH told me to get another one. The wires and straps are lined in soft velvety material, so very comfy although firm.
Freya Deco is a good everyday t-shirt type, but the other Freyas have a seam which makes my boobs look flat.
I like bras which give a rounded shape. Not flat or pointy. I also hate bras which squeeze the boobs together. So sweaty and uncomfortable. Lift and separate is best.

TK Maxx sell a lot of fantasie bras for half the cost.

I love freya at Bravissimo but they fitted my nursing bras miles too big and I was in so much pain i just wore them for the first couple months after having lo. You could literally fit oranges in with my boobs and the back is loose as anything!

Glad you got sorted OP.
I've always found Bravissimo great and have just returned two (of the same style) bras because the underwires had broken through the fabric at the front. Now you could say that this should be standard customer service, but I bought these on New Years Eve, just before I went overseas. Now you could tell that they hadn't been worn/washed hardly at all, but I was very impressed to get full refunds after seven months and without a receipt. They could see the purchase on their system so it was fine.
Big thumbs up from me.

30FF here, I had never thought of Debenhams- will check them out now. Anyway I find that on me Panache bra wires come too high in the armpit, which is a shame as the styles are great. I agree try a different brand instead.
