Are there any style and beauty wimmin about to give me advice about flogging clothes on eBay?

Sorry about calling you wimmin. Ladies sounds smug and girls sounds patronising and I couldn't think what else to call you. Blush

I have listed some clothes on eBay. I have hardly any watchers. To my mind, they are decent clothes, are reasonably priced (all started at 99p), reasonable p&p and have included nice pictures. My feedback is good and I think my descriptions make me sound like a nice seller. People with similar items are selling and I am not.

Where could I be going wrong? :(

What are your photos like? That can make a huge difference. You do know you need to link to some of your listings so we can criticise help?

BupcakesandCunting · 31/07/2012 17:55

Grin Trixy.

I think my pictures are OK. Not brilliant but good enough.

I used to use a mannequin and all sorts but I had to get rid of her when we loved house. She was great! I miss her.

Are you a new seller?
I tend to look at sellers with an established 'feedback' (Catch 22 I know)

And are they photographed against a plain white background without your lifesize nude statue of Robson Green in the background.

BupcakesandCunting · 31/07/2012 17:59

I'm an established seller with 100% postive feedback.

I've photographed them against the back of my dining room door. Is that bad?

Naked Robson would help things sell.

eBay can be weirdly inconsistent sometimes! Are you putting enough key words in your titles?

It really would be easier to help with an example of your work Grin

RobotHamster · 31/07/2012 18:01

I would say put as much detail as possible (measurements etc)

Take photos of any extra detail that the clothes might have.

trixymalixy · 31/07/2012 18:04

this thread might help

ellangirl · 31/07/2012 18:10

Sounds obvious, but make sure you have included make of clothes in description, when people leave it out I assume they're primark! Also size and colour in description. My usual searches would be including those details.

In description be detailed about condition, state that there are no marks, snags etc. state no smoking household if you are, I HATE getting clothes smelling of smoke so this would always make me more likely to bid.

Offer postage discounts for multiple items bought.

Try not to limit where you'll post to I.e. UK only. Getting accurate postage costs is easy on royal mail website as long as you know the weight/dimensions. Have sold a few items abroad which I might have otherwise missed out on- just ask people to ask you for postage quote.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for all the tips. Am working my way through the eBay thread now.

Ok here is a link to my things. Be kind.

They look like lovely items. I try and take pics against a plain background so there are no distractions in the photos? Maybe closer shots of the dresses?

BupcakesandCunting · 31/07/2012 19:14

I did think closer shots of the dresses as the pictures I have don't do the patterns/fabrics justice!

smellylittleorange · 31/07/2012 19:18

I like your style bupcakes! Personally I don't bother with Jersey dresses on ebay

as I like to see them close up and make sure not bobbly etc. I also tend to watch and bid at the last minute especially for items that are not brand new. Ellangirl you'd be surprised how much Primark stuff is blatantly for sale on ebay and sells Shock I guess there must be some parts of the Uk without one anywhere near (seeing as they don't do online order) it's mad!

smellylittleorange · 31/07/2012 19:18

Ps am watching one of your items now sorry to be annoying but I love a print!

trixymalixy · 31/07/2012 19:25

The rest of your listing seems fine, but I think the pictures could show off the dresses a bit better. I think a white background, brighter lighting for the pictures to make the prints a bit brighter, close ups of the prints and taking the pictures with the dresses laid out to make them look a little more shapely at the waist.

BupcakesandCunting · 31/07/2012 19:32

OK I think that my pictures are the problem. I probably could have answered that myself as sometimes I look at the pictures and think "That dress looks much nicer IRL!" Blush

Primark stuff sells like bloody hotcakes! I can't work it out sometimes, it goes for over what it was sold for in the shop!

Not annoying at all littleorange! :)

Chandon · 31/07/2012 19:33

you need to put the size in the title, otherwise people can't find them .

EG, I am a buyer looking for a size 14 jersey dress. I'd put in a search for "jersey dress 14", would yours come up then?

blabalalalablabla · 31/07/2012 19:38

I reckon this is a tricky time to sell - people are either watching the olympics or away on holiday - if you can try holding off til september

BupcakesandCunting · 31/07/2012 19:38

Ahhhh hadn't factored in Olympic-watching/holidays...

I thought I'd put sizes in the titles! Agggggh!

OP posts:
BupcakesandCunting · 31/07/2012 19:39

Oh no, I've missed a couple. Thanks for pointing that out Chandon! Blush

blabalalalablabla · 31/07/2012 19:42

And now having looked at your link - more pics please and echo everything that everyone else has said re: size and label in the title. Pics do look dark - I always photo mine with the flash off but in bright light - this seems to give an accurate colour likeness.

spanishring · 31/07/2012 19:55

Also I would want to know exactly what fabric they are as I dont mind viscose but I will not buy polyester or acrylic.

skandi1 · 01/08/2012 08:19

Mention non smoking and no pets in household. That helped me.

I have only just started selling (eBay virgin) and I started with maternity and baby stuff.

It definitely helped to mention that we don't have pets or smoke.

I put things on a hanger up against a door and take photos I day light.

Also remember its holiday season at the mo so people are busy sunning themselves in warmer climes rather than buying on eBay. Personally I would wait till
Schools are back in September. More people plus a bit skint too after expensive hols etc.

skandi1 · 01/08/2012 08:23

Sorry everyone already said all of that. Blush

Just had another look at photos. I would hang them up against a white back ground otherwise it's hard to see colour properly.

I don't know if it's a factor but I only sell one or two items at a time.

JezzaKyle · 01/08/2012 09:41

Ah buggerit. I can't edit my things that have got bids on and I wanted to add that my home is pet-free, smoke-free. Gah. Never mind, I'll remember that for next time!
